I hope he retires. At least take a few years off, he's still young and needs to think about his future.

Paul wasn't happy at LA gym. That's why he left. He doesn't live the life, doesn't eat right and looks over trained to me. He's a great guy who's been brutally treated by those who should know better. No way should he have taken the Simpson fight with just six weeks notice and over a stone off the weight.

As for John Thain, he does live the life, and he eats properly. He received good advice on nutrition and took it. This is down to John Wight, who worked with him for three years on his nutrition and s&c.

No, but I don't think this is necessarily down to Billy. I'm not sure that Paul's heart is in the game anymore and hasn't been for a while. I don't blame him. He emerged at a very young age and has had a lot to deal with in terms of other people's expectations and the pressure this has placed on him.

Personally, I would like to see him retire.

I like him. I don't want to see him take any more punishment.

Trainers need to be more responsable for their boxers.. they should know the lifestyle which their boxers are living... they should be monitoring the situation to the extent that if a fighter is not ready to go in for a fight, then he should not ... trainers need to be made more responsable as do the managers.. nutrition is vital... training and eating properly is a vital component to the well being of a boxer... many trainers lack the knowledge or discipline themselves to be able to control wayward boxers who have a mentality and stubborness of their own... so they just go with the flow and sap up the glory on the back of the fighters until something like this happens to a young man such as appleby... we all know that this is happening.. but no one does anything about it... appleby was overweight at the weigh in... or so I was told... he came in with a sweat suit on... then had to train to make the weight ???? Brilliant basis for dehydration....

Appleby should take two years out. Maybe he can comeback stronger this way. I think he needs a break from Boxing. He's taken some heavy losses..

Agree. He just looks shattered to me, physically and mentally. Derry Mathews has proved you can take a break and then get back to a decent level.

Appleby is a young bloke and shouldn't be taking this much punishment at his age.

Glad to hear he's on the mend in hospital anyway. Hopefully he can take some time out now and do something away from boxing for a while.

That probably should of been your first and last post 'Roz'. You are clearly someone who comes on to this forums for to troll/spread your depressing attitude and have no idea about Paul's life so stop spreading vicious rumours.

So why don't you get your facts right before you come on here and start talking extreme nonsense.

rolf @ jake123 guess you been living in the cupboard mate.... troll? I like appleby and have had him stay at my house and use MY hubbys gym... albeit before he went to billy... but which was his last fight he left the ring under a win? ... not hurt and not in hospita?....when he ate right and trained well? when he had his comeback fight last year.. so go crawl back into your cupboard with your wee laptop and troll the quotes for someone else to pick on... ask the local indian in Queensferry who they gave a free meal to for being their best customer!!!! ask the local pub who was in there boozing... no prizes for guessing... I dont use names but I know what goes on... and so should their trainers... their family and friends know what is going on and we all worry for the well being of boxers so excuse me.. I shall post as much as I want... and paul was overweight at the weigh in... was that in the papers !!!! no it wasnt... and he had to train weight off.... how do i know this.. cos my hubby was there... not gossip.... paul appleby is NOT shot... he just needs to get himself focused.... and i wish paul all the best as I always have...

Don't agree about Appleby's dietary views that everyone seems to be so clued up on (all heresay) and his heart is most definitely still in the game - just a few changes needed after a long rest

But I agree with the expectation and far too much pressure from a young age.

At only 24, Appleby will be back.

    :bbb :thumbsup

Apps last win was March 2012 - Ormond ring any bells? No hospital trip.

You seem a very bitter person and its very obvious. I am not picking on anyone - it is clear as day to see your post about Appleby wasn't of a concerned matter, your first post and all you can write is a dig about what he does in his PRIVATE life. If you getting your info from 'family' then your wrong.

If it was you that accompanied Appleby to the 'Indian and pub' and witnessed all this eating and boozing then great - but it wasn't so I think you should crawl back into YOUR cupboard and stop listening to rumours.

paul has had a lot of problems with his training and stuff for a long time not doing things the way they should be done . Roz is a good family friend who hs been involved on and off in pauls life for a good 4-5 years her and her husband are very well aware of what goes on in the boxing world as they own a boxing gym She isnt on here looking for any sort of argument just venting with frustration as she genuinely cares for Paul as do alot of people . Paul is fine and totally on the mend nd he will get back to being how he should be people quickly writing him off. Paul will be back bigger better and stronger lessons will be learnt and thats all that is really important pauls well being and health thanks for peoples concern though .

Paul has no problems with his training.

Just think it's a real shame when people come on here who are so called 'concerned' and start spreading vicious rumours about the fighters when all they do is work so hard.

Roz may well know about boxing but knowing about a person's private life is a whole different matter.

    She's a family friend, not Paul's friend.

    End of.

sorry Jake.. you got me confused... are you saying that paul WAS NOT overweight at the gym on the weigh in day???

you called me a troll... I am new to this forum and not making excuses but is the forum not about boxing and peoples view points... the reason paul came to train at our gym was to get away from the temptations of food etc ... so I am talking from experience and not hearsay..... and NOT from someones family members... quoting events from the past... which are REAL.. what Paul Appleby does now in present day is privvy to his trainer and to himself... doesnt go well that he was overweight on the day of the weigh in... and I would say the same for any boxer.. not good, to be overweight on the day of weigh in, common sense is that.... seems as if you are the one who is on the defensive.. when the reality is that we had a young man hospitalised due to dehydration.... and the main topic being discussed is .. IS PAUL APPLEBY SHOT at 24... again I stress I dont think so.. but I think he needs to reassess many things....

I have been on the phone constantly to the hospital to make sure PAUL APPLEBY IS FINE... he has been discharged.. not the actions of a bitter person... more those of a concerned friend.... :hi:
