I just watched it and thought he was ok... there was some improvement and though pickering seemed happy to last the distance I thought Appleby applied himself well and picked some good shots....

Appleby>Jon jo irwin....... compliment in case your wondering.

was at the fight last night , great atmosphere, always is at an appleby show , paul put on a good display but dont think it was as good as usual though but a great learning experience no doubt , shame on the manager though dunno what happened but there was some sort of problem wi the family getting seats ?? Well done paul next step i think will be martin lindsay .

Fantastic boxer, lacked a bit of stopping power. Appleby is 50-50 with him at the moment in terms of capabilty.

Hi TFFP did you get banned for a while? good to see you back.

My consensus is a decent prospect who has a lot of work still to do to get beyond British level but at 21 has plenty of time to do it.

I thought he picked his shots well in the earlier rounds but then started to get tired later on and got a bit untidy. He needs to work on his defence and footwork but good progress for only 13 pro fights and an improvement on his last fight.

I thought his body shots were giving Esham hell but he sometimes neglected to use them and went for the big head shots hunting for the KO. I reckon he'd have got the stoppage if he kept on going for the body of Pickering. Still a good fight and another rung of the ladder to the bigtime as been climbed.

His cornerman in the later rounds kept telling him to use straight shots and it was working a treat when he did it, the big looping shots were being slipped a fair bit and it can really knacker you out when you are punching at air.

I hope he dosent go down the Kevin Anderson road, too much too soon. That aint a slight or dig on either fighter btw. Just hope he can be reigned down.

Or should i say the promoter/manager can be

    Hairy :deal

i agree ,he needs to have at least about 4 or 5 defences min of this belt beforethinking of moving on.i thought pickering was a decent forst defence, but if he had all that experience and was featherweight then that would have been better.

def needs people who will come at him and push him and test his defence.next one up will be Martin Lindsay
