I am not saying he wouldnt win, but they should not put him in with Simpson yet. 3 more fights at least, theres no need to rush this guy.

Heres the deal with him, well my opinion of him. Seen him a few times now, he is a solid puncher, accurate with a good range of punches. Put his head movement is poor, both on offence and defence. Notice he looks away when hes throws punches. Also he doesn't counter punch.

but he is entertaining. So lets see how he does. Could be a big time star.

I agree Appleby's not ready for Simpson yet, got fast reflexes but needs to relax a bit and not get In tear ups with guys he can easily outbox. He was taking hooks he shouldn't of been taken and Simpson has good power when he wants to show It.

Watched Appelby tonight at the Kelvin Hall - he appears to be a very talented young man - threw beautiful hooks to the body of his Namibian opponent , however it was very noticable that his defence needs work as he shipped a lot of overhand rights and appeared to become dissinterested at times. He could not allow himself to become complacent against someone like Simpson who would keep it close and try to nullify Appelby's long range work. I personally would like to see Appelby's reaction if he couldn't stop his opponent and was taken into the latter part of a fight. This may be the difference, as Simpson knows how to "tough it out" and at this stage of Appelby's young carreer we havent seen that side to him - still looks a great prospect though

Which fight did you see, :huh i saw him fighing a hungarian guy who was tough but with little skill, he was taking alot of shots from the hungarian and if he doesn't tighten his defence up he is in for a very hard night against the much more talnetd simpson.

spoke to simpson last night and he fancys the job, big time............and mentioned the 12th of march , i think this should be put back a bit seen as how appleby has been busier than john and is fit right now.

although simpson looked fresh and fit and said he'd be ready............. but would like more time :bbb

Got to hand it to young Appleby he is happy to fight anyone and doesnt want to take any easy route to the top. I didnt realise just how quick the Simpson fight would be happening (I thought it would have been at least the latter quarter of this year) so I hope they iron out Pauls defensive flaws as he stil seems to make a few little novice like mistakes....great young prospect though :)

I didnt realise Coyle was fighting last night (I was at school with Jamie) so it was good to see him :)

Maka, say congrats to Barry for us if you see him today ;)

I dont see why you think its a set up?, It was a box off for the commonwealth games why would it be a set up, the ABS would want to send there best fighter at that weight Jason was that imo. I also think Jason would be more than happy to fight Appleby in a year or so once he has had a few more fights. I think Appleby fighting Simpson before the end of this year would be a big mistake, but Gilmore will risk it because he needs to have a title in his stable to keep his shows on sky.

First time I've seen Appleby and was quietly impressed. There are obvious flaws that he needs to work on but his entertaining style and powerful body shots should take him a long way. Not sure about Simpson just yet.

I stated in my original post that Appelby's opponent was a Namibian - however this is obviously not correct and appears to be a hungarian - that's fine though without knowing either of these opponents personnally then i was duty bound to belive what was printed in the programme Paul Appleby (south queensferry) v Junius Amunyela (Namibia) hope this clears the missunderstanding on the forum. Again back to my original post I think that appleby appears to be a great prospect BUT may need time before getting it on with Simpson:nono

appleby, like many other young prospects, got put in with a boxer he thought he'd blow away easiily and set about doing so. he then seemed to get a little disheartened when the hungarian came back after each impressive kd.

a little naive, but i think he'll approach the simpson fight completely differently and raise his game. i wonder if it will be enough though...

appleby is a talented young man and i have high expectations but itis too early imo to be putting him in with a tough simpson.

i tthink appleby could win but what a risk to take with a good prospect so early...whats the rush???
