John by mid round stoppage. Appleby just is not ready to fight a decent opponent.

simpson by KO, Appleby will look good first few rounds but then simpson will take over, I think Appleby is being rushed into a title fight cause Gilmour has no champs at present and need's one to keep the TV.

Also gilmour would love nothing more than to get 1 over on John after the way John left him a few years ago to sign for barry hughes. Dont think Appleby has been further than 6 rounds so a titler shot seems way out his reach to me.

Maybe they are thinking Appleby has the power to take John out early but that aint going to happen. John only took his 1st count in his last fight and was no more than a slip so dont see Appleby being able to do what Foster Jr, Matthews, Dazzo Williams or Andy Morris (x3) couldnt do and put John on his arse never mind stop him.

That's the thing that's making me think Appleby may be worth a bet on this one!

Surely Gilmour must view Paul as his main moneymaker, and as such would be mad to chuck him in unprepared to lose that '0.'

Hugo has mentioned that John used to be in Gilmour's camp, meaning that he will be aware of what John can do (notwithstanding his improvement of late). It just dont make sense to me, therefore I think that they believe that Paul can win this bout without taking too much damage. Either that or it's a PR stunt and Paul will pull out injured, with his name far more known in the circles.

you could be right bout the publicity thing........and this would be a way of getting back at simpson, him training hard for the fight and then p.a pulling out.

not sure what gilmours like in that sense.........but i can tell you he's never anywhere near a gym........so therefore only sees his boxers on the night........and general hear say coming from the camps.

simpson to ware down appleby in the latter and stop him........around 9 or 10.:bbb

I very much doubt that Appleby will be pulled out unless it's genuine , I have a feeling that Gilmour and co believe that despite the flaws he currently has that his raw aggresion , offensive style and power will be enough to get the better of Simpson . At least that's what I'm relying on to support my opinion of an Appleby win .

Anyway reckon what the odds will be like ? , from the looks of this thread the vast majority have gone with Simpson so I might have a look a putting something on Appleby if the odds are decent .

I think even if Appleby were to lose he'd probably gain a lot from defeat , much the same way Arthur did against Gomez .

Appleby could come back from a defeat no probs but I suspect that he will know he's nothing to lose and go for broke and cause an upset.

Gilmour was fuming when John left him to sign for barry hughes as gilmour took john on as a pro and got him his 1st british title shot at dazzo williams (totally robbed that night!) but i think this is more to do with they think Appleby was ready. they were ready to put him in with martin lynsday who isnt anywere near Johns level but is a good prospect who is still undefeated so shows they are prepared to take risks with Appleby now IMO.

appleby will not pull out there is no way that would happen, he got nothing to lose as was said earlier on in this thread , just a kid chasing a dream i wish him the best of luck . I knew him many years ago and all he would go on about was fighting for a british title so give it ur all son and whatever happens at least u went for it .

At the end of the day, this is a MASSIVE fight.

Cos if Appleby destroys John Simpson, we are looking at a superstar in the making. Make no mistake.
