That Appelby Walsh fight was brutal .This will probably be a war as well .Well happy with this one the cards looking quality .Hopefully Simpson's fights as good .Willy Casey would be quality man .
Well why were they eligible to fight for Irish titles then? Macklin was born and raised in England, Frankie was born and raised in England too. Both come from Irish stock - I always assumed that was why they were able to contest Irish titles. I assumed that as I thought you'd need more than just a license out of Ireland.
I think both Macklins parents are both born n raised in ireland not sure about gavin i think slap is questioning this because the Celtic title is for the northern irish, scots, welsh whilst ormond is from the republic
Ah, fair enough. Does Ormond have Northern heritage though? If he had one parent from North of the border would that allow him to contest the title? I don't care if the title's on the line or not mind, Appleby/Ormond should be a fun little dust up and I'll be glad to be there for it!
The eligibility criteria to fight for a Irish title is the same as it is for the British title. That is, the fighter must prove that they qualify for Irish/British citizenship. As both Macklin and Gavin's parents are all Irish they qualify for Irish citizenship and in fact Macklin carries an Irish passport. You dont actually have to be a British citizen to fight for a British title, you just have to prove that you qualify for British citizenship. E.g. Fighters from NI only have to show a birth cert that you were born in NI. The Celtic title is effective an area title much like the Central, Scottish, Southern etc. My understanding is that you either have to be born or permanently resident in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland to fight for the title.
