A while before he retired I was told Paul had suffered an injury that was not generally known, but was considered a serious threat to his health down the road if it was antagonized.

I think that his announced retirement came much later than the real decision, which was probably calculated on being able to secure a retirement purse because of the risk.
It never really came. Donking sat on his hands while Paul trained.

With Green I suspect that the risk influenced the "No tune-up" decision.
"All or not at all" was the deal breaker.

Better he remain behind a microphone because I think he is very very good at that.
He enunciates & comments with clarity & authority & comes over really well on camera. JMO

He's up there with Jeff Harding in my books.

Agree mate, he's very good behind the mike, and doesn't seem to be influenced by parochialism either.

An off the cuff non-complimentary assessment during a Mundine fight lost him the gig.

Khodar "We don't got the judges here" Nasser doesn't only want the judges, he wants his ringside commentators to wear a patch over one eye & a gag on Choc's opponents names as well. :dead

Mundine is really ****y like that. I think he also barred Paul Upman from commentating his fights because he rated Green higher than him.

    True.

I don't think it's Choc's doing really. Khodar is a ****en pirhanna when it comes to Mundine.
I'm pretty sure all this **** is his doing, & it's understandable. He won't get another cash cow like Choc for a while.

...probably ever. But if he milks this one as hard for much longer he won't need one!

Seems like Briggsy's trip to Perth may've been for more than a commentary gig... he's started training again. I'll try and find out more.

    Yep, hes back on again.

As I said earlier, the retirement was definite.. 'for now'.

    He's definitely back training again.

Whos knows how it will actually happen. He was trying to get a fight sorted, but the powers that be wouldnt allow it. He's finding a way to make it happen.
