    Serious credibility issues.

    It was a dive.
The only lingering questions I have are why and was Ali in on it.

The medium stuff has blown Gallender's credibility with me.
What he's saying about the NOI may be true, but I think he would write anything to make a dollar.

Sadly, I think the whole medium stuff probably shows how gullible and simple the guy is. It wouldn't be as bad if I thought he was saying stuff just to make a dollar, but sounds like he's been well and truly led by this woman he met on the internet.

I didn't find his supposed sources at all convincing before, his 'discoveries' left me a little underwhelmed, and the medium stuff just tells me that he's not the sharpest tool in the box, so it all adds up.

Yeah, he goes for the 1917 or 1919 ballpark.

..but I'm pretty sure a 17-year-old Liston was a sparring partner for Willard in Havana.

I just listened to the Bernstein interview.
Gallender is not a fool. You can tell from the first hour of the video that he knows his subject and has done his research.
He only starts sounding stupid when he touts the Liston's Ghost nonsense.

I believe he put a lot of time and work into his book and didn't make any money doing it. He's now going to try to make a few bucks out of the medium fraud.
I may be wrong, but I believe that is more likely than Gallender being a gullible dumb-ass.

The book may be a good read. He'll probably put words in Liston's mouth of things Gallender knows to be true but he didn't put in his original book because there was absolutely no proof he could offer.

That's possible, but I think he's just another sucker who has fallen for the medium BS.
In the relatively limited market of boxer biographies, I'm not sure this 'Mystic Meg' approach is going to get many takers.
I don't believe there's an awful lot of overlap between people who want to read about Sonny Liston/boxing history and serious believers in clairvoyance, mediums and 'other side' nonsense.

On balance, I think Gallender is a fool.
It started with "I met Josie on an intenet dating site."
There's a clue there somewhere.

Either way, unfortunately, he's earned the need to be dismissed now. I mean, I've seen guys hounded off of this board, and dismissed as trolls, for far less ridiculous claims. There's only so much that can be ignored.

I'm not familiar with Mr Gallender, but many would say the underlined makes him a dumbass.imo.

We agree on the bottom line- he deserves to be dismissed.
We arrived there in different ways, but we reached the same conclusion.
I would never cite him as a source or place any faith in his work.

I would add that he does point out that the book was finished before he met the medium.

I've actually discovered that he mentions her in one of his articles for boxing.com.

Yeah, haven't read book but had issues with some of his ideas anyway, based on a TV interview I saw (where he made absolutely no mention of this whacko stuff), and his claims. His 'proof' on this NOI kidnapping thing isn't convincing at all. He seems to disparage other theories too easily, some of which are based on similar hearsay, or better. He's also quite besotted with Liston, in an outdated white man way with a liberal leaning.

It's difficult now, in light of Mystic Meg, not to take a judgmental position against his research methods, which I suspected were lacking anyway.

Forgetting all the whacko stuff for a minute, the kidnapping story - the way he tells it - just doesn't ring true at all.

Anyway, boxers take dives all the time, or at least many many boxers have taken dives in history, the speculation on this one particular bout has gotten way out of hand.
