My point was that you cannot conceive something bad about your idol, when in fact it might be true.

I cannot produce it, but I never said I could. All I'm saying is that what Gallender claimed is more than possible/plausible.
If we assume Gallender lied, IMO he could have chosen an easier lie to sell, say for example that Liston did it cause the Mob told him so.
I for one believe that Gallender must have found out some type of clues/proof to base his claims on.

Ali never went to a neutral corner. Sonny said he could have got up but to get up you have to put one hand on the canvas and he was afraid Ali would wallop him while he was defenseless.

Another interesting claim is a man who passed away called William Wingate who was from Philadelphia, he claimed to be Sonny Liston's biological son and this was backed up by Paul Gallender. But a man called Lynel Gardner who was the son of one of Geraldine Liston's daughters claims this is BS and Wingate never provided proof and that it was a creation of Paul Gallender.

I just finished it and found the writing to be good albeit extremely slanted towards Liston. Calling Sonny and Ali the two greatest heavies of all time is a bit of a stretch. He needed to have had a longer reign as champion than one win against Patterson and then his Ali fights.

Liston is one of those champions that had an aura about him that has become bigger over the years. This book adds to the aura by really pushing his greatness.

That being said, I enjoyed the read, extensively researched. Always like to see the greats of the past remembered and especially by an author who worshiped them.

Years ago I was crucified on this board for suggesting that Liston's aura caused him to be overrated.

Now I get flack for suggesting he may be underrated.

Gallender said he was 47 when he lost to Clay/Ali. That's a hard no.
