Hoko's kid Kevin is a good amateur in liverpool at the moment. As for Paul, not sure what he's up to really, but I know he's not really involved with the sport anymore. He was one of my favourite fighters as a kid! He's a nice fella too.
Its sad when this happens, British boxing could do with as much input as it can get from class operators like Hoko.
Nah Barry never got a hiding from McDonnell,Barry handled him fairly comfortably untill the Londoner started fighting really dirty and deliberaltely and badly headbutted Barry cutting him just as badly. It was stooped bcause of the cuts I think. If I'd have been Barry that night I'd have waited outside Jim dressing room with a crow bar and smashed the dirty cheating *******s head in.And I liked McDonald aswell. But Barry dident derserve to go out like that at all.He was a better fighter than Jim and it saddened me to see Jim have to cheat like he did. As far as Hoko is concerned he was a damed good fighter, sadly let down by fragile facial features, his losses were allwats the same way,he'd be way infront but steadily his face would begin to swell, getting worse by the minute untill he couldent see.Last I heard of him he was Taxi driving in Liverpool. A smashing good fighter.
He was a quality lil fighter....can anyone remember the barney he had with Steve Robinson...pure quality!!?
He was always good to watch,i dont know if he fought again after losing to Robinson.I think he lost his title to Goyo Vargas but im not sure, that loss probably did more damage to him than the Robinson fight.
Used to hate that he came out to YNWA (sigh) but he was still a local lad and one of my first introductions to boxing. My family were all massive fans. I remember being really upset when you could see him on-screen saying "I can't see" to his corner-man when he lost whilst first challenging for the WBC Title. His eyes had closed completely. Can't imagine how devasated he must have been. Was also the first time I'd seen a local lad on Wogan, with the WBC Belt in tow no less. EDIT: All Wiki says about his personal life is that he lives in Kirkby & has 4 sons, I wish him all the best.
