Anyone remember him from early 90's Good article on him here http://www.boxing-monthly.co.uk/content/1001/two.htm
He was an all action fighter, fearless and confident. And a very likeable person, which is kind of rare in the profession.
In a way a forerunner to Ricky Hatton, Bustling aggression and a vicious left hook to the Body, on the way up they brought over former USA Prospect Johnny "Dancing Machine" Carter, to perhaps give him a few rounds, "Hoko" Pulled the Rug out from under Johnny in the first with hispatented Left hook to the Body, A soft retired Stevie Cruz should have stayed well away from this Mersey Marauder, Sad to Watch, In one of the most Impressive "Away" world title wins Goyo Vargas showed beautiful Skill and Timing before unleashing his Bombs to Ko Paul, I think Paul had simply got used to Walking Through Opponents like a Tidal wave, Goyo was a real skillful Hardcase.. Pauls unremitting aggression played into Goyo's counter-punching Hands... If Paul had fought Goyo like he did Villasana 2nd mixing Boxing with the Battering maybe it could of been different ? I dont Think Steve Robinson would have contained the Prime "Hoko" but his minimalist approach would still have made it a tough fight, "Hoko" vs Sweet C McMillan would have been a feather Ali - Frazier and perhaps a Coin Toss affair, Good Memories and few came more exciting than "Hoko" "Hoko" Hodkinson Vs Troy Dorsey now that would of been a Humdinger !
Agreed. I found that comment odd too.... But Hoko was very entertaining. Kind of crashed and burned a bit at the end, as I recall. Hope he is doing well today.
