Paul looked GREAT! before getting KO'D

I don't think the Williams' camp was prepared for Martinez to fight inside.

I think they expected Martinez to stay on the outside like he did last fight, where Paul could control him with his reach, and hit him with uppercuts when he came inside.

As far as being open for that punch though, that's a fundamental mistake. He should have had his hands up. That's all there is to it.

 

I dont understand how you guys had PW winning. Yes he was throwing more but Martinez was landing the heavier punches. He even stunned PW in the 1st round. I dont know if its the commentary which was extremely biased that swayed you guys but i just saw PW land about 2 clean flush power shots and the rest were not really landed all that well. In the mean time Martinez was landing flush bombs over and over in those 2 rounds.

I had it a very close fight because of PWs activity but Martinez slightly ahead due to effective shots landed.

I dont think PW wants a 3rd fight. Hell he didnt even want a second fight. Also Martinez said PW would do better to return to 147 or 154 because he is not strong enough to be at 160.

 

I don't see how people thought Paul was winning either. Martinez was in complete control.

He was controlling the tempo, and Paul looked liked he had no solution for Martinez' inside work, as if he hadn't prepared for it at all.

Martinez was landing that overhand left at will.

It looked like a possibility from the start, IMO.
(But I won't front and act like I expected a "ONE Hitter Quitter")

 

I thought he looked good doing what he usually does, which is throwing alot of punches hoping something will land. Thats what he does, it's who he is. He looked sharp doing it & very determined. The fight was so close before the KO that i don't see how you could say either guy was winning. The fight was still developing.

 

How can you look great when losing a round?

 

He looked good in the offense but took a couple of hard shots and I think he was already hurt when the bomb landed. He was not using his jab in the first round which was a fundamental mistake. And his trainer told him to use everything between the rounds except for the jab.

 

In other words...the operation was a success, but the patient died.

 

He was indeed applying effective pressure but simultaneously getting caught clean with hard punches.

yeah I don't know maybe Martinez was going to win anyway but think about the situation the KO happened if Williams has set that lef hook with a jab. Already his right hand was going to be up after the jab and Martinez was not going to be able to concentrate for the crushing left as he did.
