jeez, im a big mccloskey fan but this is a bit of a joke. its almost a gimme for a european title

still 20(10)-0 looks good for mccloskeys record and given his age i think he will push on to the world scene. seriously if matchroom could pursuade don king and devon alexander to come to ireland for the money, they would probably fill a GAA stadium near derry, about 10-15,000 for a world title fight.would be great

Add Duddy to the mix and you could fill the Brandywell in the city which is a public amenity. I am not sure there is too much of a will for it though.

This is a real shame as M'Baye would have been a good name for the record.

Jesus Pat its hardly Pauls fault that Mbaye pulled out.

Rasilla is very average and Murray should have stopped him - McCloskey will!

Should be another Irish European champion!! :good

Local hero Paul McCloskey steps up in a challenge for the vacant European light-welterweight title against Spanish champion if late substitute Daniel “Cobra” Rasilla in Northern Ireland on November 6.
McCloskey was due to challenge established Frenchman Souleymane MBaye for the title on the night but MBaye relinquished just a week ago, injured, and in comes Rasilla. At 15-2 (4), the swarthy challenger has been stopped in one of his losses but went the full 12 rounds with talented Irishman Andy Murray earlier this year in the other - and that was in Dublin - and has since reeled off three wins, the last one just four weeks ago. He is ‘blooded’ in Ireland and in fighting shape. One of those three wins, by the way, was a 10-round decision over Juan Zapata for the Spanish light-welterweight title. He previously held the Spanish lightweight title. At 5ft 11ins tall, he has height and reach on the burly McCloskey.
McCloskey, a former amateur star unbeaten in 19 paid outings, hails from Dungiven in Northern Ireland and will enjoy big crowd backing and is clearly being groomed for the top by promoters Matchroom after trouncing Dagenham’s Colin Lynes in Dagenham in nine rounds for the British light-welterweight title last December (as a late sub). European title victory will secure him an automatic world ranking.
Heavy-handed yet elusive, the southpaw Irishman is strong and clever, not easy to nail, hurtful to head and body… He can really fight.
The younger McCloskey is definitely on the climb and on the climb fast and will definitely want to put one over on fellow countryman Murray.
I fancy him to force a middle-round stoppage.

Shame that M'Baye had to pull out, would have told us so much more about him at Euro/Fringe World class level. I thought McCloskey would have put in an impressive performance.

Can't say I remember the Murray-Rasilla fight but i'm sure I watched it.

    Mid-Round stoppage I reckon :good.

    Great card on sky tomorrow

Paul McCloskey and Daniel Rasilla both made the weight at the first time of asking ahead of their European Light Welterweight title fight at the Meadowbank Sports Arena in Magherafelt tomorrow night (Friday, November 6th).

Both were comfortably inside the championship limit of 140 pounds with the undefeated McCloskey tipping the scales at 139 pounds and 4 ounces while Spanish Champion Rasilla scaled 139 pounds exactly.

The bout is live on Sky Sports 1 from 10pm tomorrow night.

McCloskey should win this with relative ease. I really rate the Irishman and hope he can be a genuine class act at the elite level of the 140 division. Hopefully he has alot of support tonight.
