Ian John Lewis was VERY aware that he'd robbed Corley of all momentum by stepping between them. I think he realised he'd made half a bad decision and decided to carry it through to the end.

He can keep this video on his mantle, right next to Vitali vs Briggs

It was a dreadful stoppage, and in my memory it'll always stick as a classic bad stoppage, but let's move on and not burn the toast more than we need to.
It'll all end in tears. :|

Not trying to sound cocky, but I'm pretty sure I'm just as knowledgeable as you in regards to boxing. . . And you never cited be a specific stoppage, you simply referred me to the UK archives, that right there tells me nothing springs to your mind that was noticeably worse than this stoppage. . .

And yes, according to the rules , the referee's discretion to stop a fight would be more applicable to the Calzaghe/Manfredo situation, than what happened to McCloskey.

And the time he gave the fight to that boy from Swindon.
His refereeing skills are only matched by Khan's PR skills.:yep

 He'll probably look great beating Peterson, and I'll think Hey, maybe I was wrong, this guy really is worth all the hype, and a credit to the sport. Khan will then tell Merchant in the post fight interview that his success is down to eating dead kittens. :-(

It was and ok stoppage McCloskey was gone shaky legged didn't know where he was and if you think about it the ref stopped Corley getting robbed.

A standing 8 count would have sufficed, especially considering the way he jumped in between the action.

Did you see the fight? THe fight was even; in fact, Paul was actually probably winning by 1-2 rounds, and the fight was certainly going his way. . .

He got his nose wiped by a solid hook, did a stanky leg for a FRACTION of a second, and then IMMEDIATELY got back into his boxing stance, looking Corley directly in the eye, bouncing on his toes. . .

SOrry, but that is the worst stoppage of hte decade at the very least. . .

I don't see how a real boxing fan can justify it, but whatever, officially done with it after this post! DONE!

mccloskey was done for and would have been dropped heavily if the ref didn't stand in the way. it looked an ugly stoppage cos it was but no way was it even close to the worse i have seen.
