I´m reading currently a book about the history of pro boxing in Germany and there is something written about this guy. Heavyweight boxer in the beginning of the 20th century. In this book it´s stated that he went the full distance with Jack Johnson and Harry Greb and fought Gene Tunney to a draw. When I look him up at boxrec there is no fight with Johnson mentioned but a newspaper loss to either Greb and Tunney and a three round TKO against Tommy Gibbons. Does anybody know if the Johnson fight really happened? Or do you have some information on the other fights? Would be very appreciated.

    Hallo Loewe,
is it the book "Kampftage" by Kohr /Krauss?
One of my favourite sources of boxing history is the "Ring Record Book" of 1959. There is a fight mentioned Johnson - "Paul Sampson" in 1919. Johnson won in round six in Mexico City.
There is also mentioned a fight Tunney - "Sampson" in 1920 (ND 8).
Paul Samson-Körner is obviously a forgotten great fighter.
    Best wishes
    Pete

Hi, yes it is indeed the named book. Great read, very interesting and I think the only book purely about German pro boxing.
Thanks for the information. It indeed seems that he could get in the ring with some great fighters and survive while that doesn´t make him great it shows that he was a very capable fighter. Very much forgotten like a few others.
I hope others have a few information too :good
