As much as staunch fans will back smith, there are plenty of people who don't like him as a boxer just because they always have. Some people don't like him as a person because of his very short stint as a poster on this forum. Ibtiink this goes against him where people attitudes of him on here are concerned. As things stand, he is a very competent boxer who has just made a very good comeback, with lots to still prove. He is in a very good gym with good people around him to help him progress. As has been mentioned before, a fight with mendy would be good. In his come back he was thoughtful, using the jab well, hooking off it setting up shots like the one that finished the fight. We need to see him in a longer fight to see the full scale of any improvements, but I think there are a lot of positives, and some very good fights out there for him in the future.
If quigley is over his problems they could rematch at middle in an eliminator for the British title, first fight was close. I remember watching their first fight and knowing both should have been at MW really, that was poor
He thinks he is much better then he actually is to be honest! Good enough to win British but no more.
Sadly I think Quigley is a fair bit off being back at domestic level. He is still quite young I think but he has been out too long and with too many injuries he has obviously lost a step and it might take a year + of rebuilding to get it back if he can at all. As for Paul I honestly think he is better than he is given credit for. I think its because he and some fanatics were talking about the WBO at one point that there has been a reactionary thing that has gone too much the other way that he was below domestic level which he clearly isnt in my personal opinion. I think he can definitely win a Lonsdale outright. I think he handles Murray if they ever meet. Much worse fighters than him have become European champions. There should be some big fights out there for him over the next few years.
Yeah Quigs been out too long, but maybe it can still work. It would sell out the Echo Arena and I think both camps would go for it. Quigley would see it as redemption and an opportunity to get amongst the top tier in British rankings again and Smigga would fancy the fact that hes been out so long. Then again theres the weight issue. Quigley looks like he could make MW but whether he does or not is a different matter. Overall, I think the biggest issue in the potential for this fight is the weight. If not then like you say there are a few big fights out there for him.
Apparently, from what ive heared, when paul and matthew where sparring, paul would often have to hold back and spar at macks level. Dont know how true this is but I would back my source to be right :conf
He's going to be in the mix at MW domestically, especially with Murray, Selkirk and McNally campaigning there. There could be some good scraps at the Echo for the Lonsdale in the near future.
I thought Quigley beat him when they fought, if they could both do MW might be worth doing again?? But if he wants to move up the ladder at MW i'd like to see him with Martin Murray who i think would have too much for him and maybe stop him.
Guts I think everyone need to remember this fight he was at just under 168. Working his way down to middle. I expect him in his next fight to be 164 ish
Barker would school Smith every minute of every roundatsch Smith is a british level fighter and Barker is approaching world level. To be honest i think you must be a casual boxing fan if you think Smith's ability is anywhere near Barkers.
