He actually weighed just under 168 for that fight ya know. Hes coming down slowly. After another one or two fights he should look a lot better.

found this about smith talking about moving up to super middle in 09

Anson Wainwright – You briefly dropped to Middleweight but came back to Super Middleweight after you lost to Steven Bendall. Was the move back to 168 because you were flat at having to make 160?

Paul Smith – I have been mainly a middleweight but moved up to 168 for The Contender. Something I don’t regret doing. I made 168 the morning of the fight and felt good in doing so. I had a bad time making 160, sometimes dropping silly, unhealthy amounts of weight due to miss-calculating and messing up food wise. I feel a lot stronger at 168, that last 6lb is a killer.

Worth noting that Stephen Smith has said that he would always struggle to take the last few pounds off when they was with Vaughn but has since made the weight much easier now he's with Gallagher.

This is what I mean. Boxers need discipline but when you have to apply it yourself it becomes easier. Of course Paul finds it easier and more comfortable to make 168 but hes too small. I bet Hatton found it a lot easier to make 200 and I bet he felt more comfortable :nut

The thing is, he is being TOLD to lose the weight now and will be helped along in his diet and training by a more aggressive disciplinarian in Joe gallagher. I hope it goes well for him!

Correct, not everyone is world class, being a British champ is still someone to be VERY proud of

Agree. Would love to see Smith v Barker. I like both fighters but my head says Barker, my heart says Smigga!

yeah i think im with ya on that one. barker wouldnt really hurt smith at any point but he seems that bit quicker, while smith has the power advantage. its a fight that smigga would have to rise to. id love to see that but i doubt we will.

:deal Barker has too much ability for Smith. We have all seen how he can't handle fighters with long reaches. Smith-Mcewan is a decent fight.

His next fight should be a serious fight, ideally an eliminator with Anderson. Winner fights Groves.
