Hmm...you might be right but I think the speed and angles will be what keeps opponents off of him. Calzaghe didn't have power but he still kept guys off of him. He wasn't elusive either.

 

Smith performed to the best of his ability.

 

Lp I reckon paulie gives it large quite a lot, maybe bad loser was wring choice of words, but maybe whining ***** would be better. The whole can't get a decision thing made me laugh

 

He wasn't going to win bar a big shot BUT he is the champion, he is an experienced pro and he does deserve to not be stopped so poorly. Like he said, are experienced pro's now supposed to act like amateurs and any decent punch they fear being stopped so they are going to take a knee and a count.

 

Terrible loser, thats disappointing to hear.

This is one of those times where excuses don't wash. He was just outclassed, simple as that. Man up and move on.

 

Ron I've given my opinion on degale, and that opinion will bear me out that I am not deluded.
I maybe understand losing emotions better than most being a west ham fan .
Degale stopped evrrything coming at him with a quality right jab, and the distance that helped keep between him and smith.

 

agree. The guy is jsut genuinley convinced he could beat Hatton and it was an off night fair play to him for that. I don't hear him complain about the Khan and Cotto figths.

Groves can be hurt though. He's not really a rugged type of pressure fighter. I don't even know why Booth called him a pressure fighter. In that fight I see DeGale as the aggressor.

 

Calzaghe stopped punching hard as his hands got worse. But he had good pop in his physical prime and he still could hit hard to the body.

And he wasn't elusive, but he was always throwing punches which made it hard for guys to do too much.

TFFP, I see your point. Never seen Groves as a pressure fighter in the Chavez mode, he backs up and prefers to counter. but maybe that's a facet of his game he works on in the gym?

Either way, I expect Groves-DeGale would be a very cagey fight.

 

Early it would be tactical, but on the evidence we've seen so far it seems DeGale is better conditioned, overall stronger and more mature physically. Groves would likely start to wilt in that fight and DeGale woud than begin to pressure him.

 

Groves is actually a counter puncher. All his best work happens when he is moving backwards. He is always walking backwards until he hurts the opponent.

DeGale is at his best when he counter punches. He only every hurt Smith when he was up agaisnt the ropes and coutner punches and that led to his attacks. The rest of the time he was just flicking with the jab. DeGale is actually to agressive for his own good.
