I don't mind Smith as a commentator but him suggesting he could be a world class fighter is laughable, he's as deluded as Audley Harrison, Barker, Macklin and Murray would all stop him.

Smith is lazy when preparing and not preapring for a fight. Technically he is very poor though in his last fight he pulled off some real nice moves.

Smith needs to train MUCH harder to have good enough stamina and come in at 160. His toughman style won't work against skilled operators. Its fun with average opponents like Quigley and Dodson but gets exposed versus more skilled guys like Groves and DeGale.

Smith needs to work ALOT on his technique, establishing a good jab, getting the body work going, putting the combos together, using the three lines of defence etc

At the Commonwealth Games 2002; Smith was a lightmiddle (silver medal), and Barker a lightwelter (gold medal). I think both were 18 and Smith turned over quite soon after the games so would have been unlikely they would have fought as seniors. Possibly when they were younger though don't think so

I dont know how you can say Paul Smith is technically poor though his skillset is good i think its more a question of his fitness and being very small in the weight catagory he fights in.
