Wasted another night in watching Paul Smith, every fight he is in is a messy hug fest maul, the guy is in terrible fights,he talks about fighting for a world title when its very clear he is just a british level fighter,i would love to see him do well because he seems to be a nice guy but i cant see it happening and i certainly wont be watching any of his fights ever again

The standard of boxing was terrible. Dodson didn't want to win it and was doing all the hugging. Can either of these guys throw a combination of any note.

Smith just wasn't scared to get off and that is the whole reason Dodson threw away the chance to be Brit champ.

Wasted my evening that fight did. Much like Quigley vs Smith.

In Magee I trust. He can tame the awfully named Smigga.

I probably do sound a bit harsh but come on i have never seen him in a good fight and he sells out the Echo Arena,i dont know how because his fights are terrible...
Dobson was as much to blame for the poor fight but to be fair to him he's usually decent enough to watch..

Thought similar. Smith is nearly always in dreadful fights

Maybe Smith and Ruiz are long lost brothers seperated at birth.

His last two fights have been awful. I was there on friday and was quite honestly board out my tits for the main event.

I think people need set out their expectations when attending or watching these type of fights and fighters, this is why i was annoyed at people trashing Clottey for not doing more and asking him to be something he's not, when he basically did the best he could given his assets bearing in mind what he was up against and his track record. "you are who you are"

You've gotta know the attributes and limitations of what you're about to watch.

These guys are fighting at their level so they should be able to produce more. I don't see Dodson's excuse for just jabbing, clinching so much, not throwing any combos nor going to the body at all.

I have only ever seen 2/3 full Paul Smith fights but I have heard numerous reports of other fights that sounded just like his last 2 this is no fluke, just go and watch his fight with David Banks (I know only highlights) but even there you can tell that it was a scrappy affair.

I know what you're saying, but sometimes you get the impression that some people expect to see Sweet Pea esque squating on the toilet and combination punching from mediocre fighters.

Most of those clinches were initiated by Smith. After causing the clinches he would then try to make it look like he was the one pretending it wasnt him who caused it.
No doubt alot will disagree but if you can watch bits of the fight again before you comment. But Dodson did do a fair bit as well
