It appears that Fast Car knew all along how this fight would go and Smith took the fight strictly for a payday. Both Smith and the trainer(Gallagher?) should be ashamed of themselves.Very unprofessional but that's what it has come down to.
Cashing in on one last payday and diminish whatever reputation ,however low,he had.:tired

I'm not going to bother bashing Smith because quite simply it was A a disgrace that Ward offered him the fight after him being beaten twice by Abraham and B that he had the cheek to accept the offer (yes I now he couldn't turn down the payday) but he had absolutely nothing to offer Ward. The difference in class is ridiculous - it was like barcleona v Oldham Ath utterly pointless. If he had come in shape and would have been battered as he was...if he had thrown caution to the wind and went after Ward he would have got battered and stopped earlier. There was zero that he could do as he is only a domestic level fighter who got lucky on a couple of opportunities he didn't deserve...KOd by Degale & Groves..and he hasn't even proved he is the best super middle in liverpool..in fact he is probably only about the 3rd best fighter in his family. The night was a shambles even Halling and watt sounded embarrassed to be there.

Can't really disagree with this, can only say I can't blame him for taking the last 3 fights, only thing I would blame him for is not taking the blackledge fight to keep the British and then move to Hearn, but he probably thought Hearn could get him an easy defence then a world title shot but that only half worked

We're watt and halling actually out there or like smith and mccrory in a studio in London providing commentary

It was terrible from Smith, from the weigh in to the towel being thrown in, you never got the impression he believed he could do anything.

I know it is Ward, I know Ward is excellent but as a fighter surely you believe in yourself even if nobody else does and Smith looked like he couldn't give a toss.

No not a disgrace but he purposely didn't make weight and yes he went 9 rounds but barely threw any worthwhile shots but he did go 9 rounds . Yes he fought for two world titles but he really didn't nearly win one of those fights did he be honest . As a commentator he is not that good + his voice is annoying and he shouldn't do any tv work when his brothers or stable mates are involved on the bill he can't seem to help himself from being to biased

Maybe he could be Franks 1st defence nice warm up before he smashes Ward to bits, but I think Ward will move up and run scared of The Bug

Would add on the money side of the fight. If it was about purely the payday he should of been on point with the scales.

Losing north of $60k on a $225k purse less tax deductions, managers cut, trainers fee etc.....doesn't leave him with anything like the figure people think.

Boxing is a business if the attitude is you know you can't win at least get fully paid.

The inability to make weight was disgraceful but the stick he is getting on here is beyond pathetic.

Don't get the hate for him at all:- seems to have been there long before the weight-in & last night was just the excuse some had been waiting for...

I enjoy his commentary in any case...

Very decent pundit at times,no agenda from me but as an active fighter and pundit you need to practise what you preach!

The night of the farcical Fielding v Adamu fight he rightly took RF to the cleaners on air.He also on the same night made it clear he wouldn't want to train a long hard camp for an opponent to miss weight so badly.Hence he had no interest in RF pulling the same stunt on him!

The whole affair was odd from the start. The catchweight; Smith fighting in such a big fight so soon after two mentally draining fights with Abraham; everyone knowing he was completely out of his depth (including him). And to top it off, only getting to San Francisco three or four days before the fight. Not forgetting Gallagher preparing Callum Smith in England for most of the lead up. Just weird.

Hearn doesn't half get Sky to pay out for some pointless fights. Reminded me of Rose-Andrade.

i honestly think the weight thing was a genuine unprofessional mistake...an expensive one...

he did look awful though, even looking in the mirror would have told him he was overweight if his scales were wrong

Smith is a whanker, boring commentator and produces dogshyte in the ring.

Georgie Boy pumped him a long time ago and he is just another Tony Bellend.

Smith was in **** shape etc but what is with the hate for him on here? He seems like the most unliked British fighter but why? People have talked about having negative experiences meeting him - anyone got any details?

in the middle of watching the repeat of this fight, you cant knock him for taking the fight and securing his financial future, however the shape he turned up in combined with a flat/very poor performance has seriously hurt his legacy. The lack of effort/commitment hes put into his training camp would highlight he never really went to win.
