Paul Smith was spot on when he called echo boxing writer Nick Peet a clown , this man said this fight was a contender for fight of the year , honest. the ref worked harder than both maulers. I just watched Pacquio and Clottey and you did not see the ref all fight. S mith comes across a a decent lad talks a good fight but they all seem to be brawls, cant he get behind his jab move around the ring throw combinations on the evidence of his last 2 fights which to be fair they are the only ones the public have seen it would appear he cant, he said he wanted to look good in this fight, come on paul if thats looking good i would not like to see you on a bad night. Dodson should retire.atsch
The referee should take a lot of credit for Friday...:yep It was very messy indeed, far from a classic...:yep Mick Williamson got it spot on, he let him get on with his work...:good
I actually thought Dodson looked better than hes been for years! Dodson did well I thought, & was unlucky to lose a close fight, definitely should NOT retire if you ask me.
spot on Dodson has plenty of fight left in him I had Smith down for the win before the fight but was pleasantly suprised by how close Dodson made it.
I was slightly disappointed with the outcome because I honestly thought that if he didn't gas like he did against Quigley then Dodson could have taken the fight. Smith needs to drop a few pounds and move down to properly test himself.
Same...Dodson actually looked the more skilled operator in truth. Where he stumbled was half way through the fight he just stopped working, presumably worried about stamina. Smith has grinded out a few good results but if we're being honest they've both been messy fights and he's shown little class if any, you would never guess he was a good amateur. All he seems to do is walk around a bit then plough forward with a few wild punches and hold. Now and then he'll pick a good punch but its a rare occurance.
Shame Smith is such a twat because I could really get behind that guy. non homo. I think Dodson was expecting the ref to stop the fight and lost himself a couple of the early rounds when he should have been trying to dominate.
Don't enjoy watching Smith at all, dont get me wrong he's good at what he does and he knows how to win a fight, but most fights of his I've seen I haven't really enjoyed watching.
I'd picked Tony before the fight and I had it 117-111 on the night to Smigga. As I left the arena with people saying "that was a draw" it got me wondering what I was watching. Maybe I was a bit harsh on Tony to not give him any more rounds, but top and bottom of it, Smith won by a fair distance.
Dodson was the more technically correct but his unwillingness to let his hands go and his inability to put combos together saw him lose. Jab and grab was not a smart way to try and con people into believing you were the best British Super Middleweight on the domestic scene. Domestic or not, we expect more than jab and grab.
