On another 'stacked' undercard against TBA. What does he have on EH to keep being given these easy fights off the back of constant boring performances. Why not fight a luke blackledge or jamie cox or any other domestic opponent? And this bollocks about him waiting for a world title opportunity . Who has he beat in the last four years to warrant another world title shot. His best win was tony dodson over 3 years ago!
He'll be ticking a long until Eddie can tie down a big name to make some dollar. To be honest you can't really blame Smith. He's been involved in domestic wars, he's won the British title, he's fought in big arena's, he's fought big names and he's come up short in world title fights. He has experience on his side, can bang... why go full circle and fight for 'peanuts' in tough fights when your promoter can position you into fights with bigger names with more cash on the table.
If Murray beats Abraham I can see that fight topping the bill in the echo arena Scouser against st Helens for a world title
What world title would that be for though? Apart from the WBA all the titles are tied up. And if Groves wins his next fight he'll be mandatory for that. My point is Smith needs to beat someone decent to warrant another world title shot. His last 3 opponents had 52 defeats between them, and his close loss to Abraham was over 2 years ago.
It probably wouldn't. It'd just be another example of Paul Smith coming up short. It's amazing just how many opportunities he's been given despite failing pretty much every major test he's ever been given.
Let's be honest Smith is British level at best and has been lucky to get the chances he has regarding fighting AA and Ward. He can still forge a decent living at British/European and fringe world class level.
I'd really like to see him in with some of the other lads in the British top 10... Murray, Fielding, Blackledge, Cox (although only Murray and Fielding will generate the interest and money). Smith has put himself in with some big names.... Groves, Degale, Ward, Abraham.... but he's come up short. When you actually look into who he's beat, the only remote stand-out is Dodson.
Boxing is his Christmas and summer holiday spending nothing more nothing less He ain't serous about the sport I mean if you cant get motivated for a ward fight with good money then
There is something cringeworthy and tawdry about watching Paul smith box on past his retire by date. Just looking at his soft flabby out of shape carcass drag itself thru the ropes makes me embarrassed. He looks to me like a very depressed unwell man. I worry for his well being to be honest.
