British super middleweight champion Paul Smith (29-1) has declared his ambitions to win a world title after beating Paul David. ''I want to get this defence out of the way then think about winning a world title. I will raise my game to any opponent. I am confident I can win fights at the highest level.'' But first Smith must overcome tough challenger Paul David (12-5).
He's not even close, he's having wars at domestic level and I don't buy the whole "I can't get up for those fights" line.
Its crazy to go from fighting a 12-5 journeyman to world level. Maybe he should step the competition up gradually.
The guys a bloody mess in British Title fights. He neglects his best weapon (His Jab). He goes to war with guys he should be outclassing. He obviously will go Wbo route.
I never seen him Mate, i take your word for it i know your clued up on the European circuit. I don't rate Smith to highly. Think Magee has more chance tbh.
Stieglitz has some decent results on his records. Beaten Berrio, a murderous puncher. Also lost to him mind. Beaten Balzsay recently who was considered a relatively decent prospect after beating Inkin. Lost in 8 to Andrade after a brave showing, no disgrace there. He's not exactly going to be worried by Smith's arsenal of punches after facing these guys and he's boxing with a lot more form than Paul Smith who seems to think the only way to win fights is to hug people and swing as hard as possible.
I rated Smith a few years back as a middleweight but he is far from the fighter I was once a fan of. he neglects the jab, he isnt a natural super middleweight, he keeps getting into ugly fights with opponents levels below him when he should be mixing with some decent gatekeepers and contenders. The guy never capitalised off of The Contender tv series...its a shame but unfortunatley he doesnt have a chance at world level anymore. I'd still like to see him in with Magee for the european belt and theres some good scraps with Degale and Groves available for him on the domestic scene.
Bottom line is if Paul David turns up and boxes to best of his ability then he could frustrate the hell out of Smith en route to being British champ which would be a strange turn of events.
Yeah i think you summed it up in that post. Uppercut your right if David fancies the job he could take the title. I don't have lot of faith in him though but he's gonna cause Smith issues. Smith has fell in love with mauling.
