So I guess it's time we should call him Paul "I don't wanna get Punished" Povetkin! :happy

Dan Rafael writes, "Paul Williams is no longer the most feared fighter in the world (as his promoter, Dan Goossen, likes to espouse), because Sergio Martinez is ready, willing and able to give him a shot at the middleweight championship. It's a rematch of a great fight (a close Williams decision), and HBO is dangling $3 million to the promoters to make the match. Martinez and his promoter, Lou DiBella, will make the deal. It's the Williams side, with its demand for more than 50-50, that is holding it up. Feared Williams is not. Fearful his camp might be." :deal

More than 50-50? After the Cintron farce in which I barely gave Punished one round he wants more than 50% vs. the Undisputed World MW Champion? It certainly looks like a fight killing demand to me, I guess without good friend Pierre Benoist scoring, fighting Martinez is not such a good idea, but for the love of your remaining fans, Paul Povetkin, please GROW SOME BALLS! :thumbsup

Because of the Povetkin and Wladimir fiasco, I'd say.

Martinez took away his balls and he hasnt been the same since thats why right after the fight he started talking about going back down to welter and never seemed interested in a rematch with Sergio.we will probably see a Sergio-Cotto fight sooner than a Sergio-williams rematch.

this guy needs to get his finger out of his arse quick and fight, Pavlik fight didn't happen either, for whatever reason, some say Pavlik didn't fancy it, he'll most likely face Rubio or something or Mundine or Foreman etc.

the question is, how much would Martinez be getting? 1.5M seems low for this fight. Don't forget PW already hold a win over Martinez.

No, I think he changed his name. Everyone wants a Russian name now. (It's called the Sugar Effect).

i think they do want the fight but want against two or three other opponents first they may have seen the cintron fight and realised that he aint as good as before

then again pw should just stick in one division and build a legacy for himself but he is wasting time by weight hopping every 6 months.

Completely agree. He needs to establish himself in ONE weight class, this up and down bull****, (even if it was done out of necessity) he is wasting his time and getting him nowhere.

Forget middleweight, go to 154 stay there and be the man at 154

I for one am want see the rematch. I don't think Paul is scared he already proved to me that fear is not in his pedigree. But I think his handlers are following the bull**** trend of hyping the fighter to believe that money is more important than quality fights and wins. Paul is simply drinking the kool aid.

Martinez is the champ beating Pavlik on HBO therefore he rightfully deserves 50-50. Williams is no champ and has no particular following that would grant him more than 50% anyways.

HBO should tell Williams that he will sit on the sidelines as long as he doesn't face the guys they are willing to dish out money for. That's the only way to make promoters and fighters get realistic again...

If 1.5 million ain't enough...then he can go fight in a non televised half filled arena making around $100 000..

After just watching the fight again recently ... did anyone really think Paul won the fight vs Sergio ?
I suppose it was close enough that i can't cry robbery but to me Sergio won it pretty clearly.
