PAUL TRUSCOTT is looking forward to getting back in shape and in the boxing ring after spending the past four months playing on the Playstation and eating bacon sandwiches.

The former Commonwealth featherweight champion has done little exercise since September 4, when he broke his right hand and further damaged his already injured left in a 10th round stoppage defeat to John Simpson.
But after spending most of the recovery time scoffing and button bashing instead of hitting the road and heavy bags, the Middlesbrough battler has resumed light training and hopes to box soon, possibly at the end of March.
“I needed the rest because all I did last year was train,” said the 23-year-old from South Bank.
“But being unable to train and use my hands has been stressing me out and left me feeling like a fat slob. I’m 11 stone now and I’ve never been so unfit in my entire life.
“All I’ve done is four or five runs and five training sessions in four months or whatever it’s been.
“I’m the best ever at Playstation 3 and eating bacon sarnies, I’d give anyone a go with them.”
He added: “But I’m excited about getting back in training and I’ve got a smile back on my face. My first target is just to get fit and sharp, get my weight down and get the feeling of a boxing ring again.
“It won’t take me long to get fit, I work too hard. I’m maybe looking at boxing again at the end of March but I’ll see what my manager Mick Marsden says.
Truscott suffered his second defeat in 15 bouts to Simpson, who controversially took the Commonwealth belt from him in January, 2009 on a cut caused by a head butt.
The former Young England amateur international said the right hand he had surgery on after the gruelling rematch - which was put back from its original July date due to flooding at Eston - is now fine. He is also having physiotherapy on his left, which did not require an operation.
“I was getting a shooting pain in it but there were no fractures and the hospital didn’t know what was wrong,” he said.
“They think it might be bone slippage, and the surgeon who I saw said he is 90% sure I don’t need an operation.
“I’ve been given exercises and movements to do.”
And Truscott still plans to see if he can make the nine stone featherweight limit safely, despite looking gaunt at the weigh-in for the Simpson rematch.
He added: “I was dead at the weight and everyone has been telling me to step up a weight.
“But the more I think about it, I was more burned out from so much training than anything.
“I felt strong, otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to perform the way I did.
“I still gave John Simpson hell and if I can do featherweight without killing myself like I was before, I’ll do it.

Good to see you back Trussy.. Best of luck mate I think you still have an awful lot left to win in a boxing ring.. Remind me of Johnny Tapia at times.. Heart on your sleeve with loads of skill to match..

    Good luck mate..:good

On the same note I'd like to say Simpson is an animal!! It's gonna take something special to beat him the kinda form he's in! Im tipping him against Lindsay if it comes off!!;)

    Good stuff.

Hopefully he will be stronger at the higher weight - losing to Simpson isn't anything to be ashamed of, especially given his current form.

You think it came too soon Jeff?

I definitely agree with you, needs to forget he was champ and get down to the nitty gritty.

Hope he comes back stronger, seems like a nice fella and I enjoy watching him box.

Yeah good point really. I sort of meant like he should forget he was headlining shows and get down to business sort of thing.

Good luck to him anyway :good
