Sad stuff. Who knew Paul Williams would turn into Floyd Mayweather?

At least now the hype train will end and there will be no more "Williams beats Pavlik" nonsense talk.

Just like with Floyd and Margarito, or Dawson and Diaconu: At one time, Williams thought he would face Pavlik. And then he woke up -- or Martinez' punches woke him up, actually -- and reality set in.

In one fell swoop, "Most Feared" man in boxing became "Most Fearful" man in boxing.

 

Pavlik is the linear MW champ with three belts. Paul has done NOTHING at MW to even pretend to be able to dictate those terms. He less worth after the Martinez fight than before because Martinez pretty much beat him up. This isn't rocket science. Arum's offer is still on the table and a career pay day for Paul plus the title shot. This is not rocket science. Goosen's posturing is a way to try and save Paul from the beating Kelly would give him at MW. I have stated all along I though Paul was too small and Kelly would hurt him. After Martinez more people are saying the exact same thing.

Team Williams have always said they're willing to fight from 147-160. This is nothing new. Such an over the top thread. You seem to forget that 2 months ago he was about to fight Pavlik only for KP to pull out.

Kelly Pavlik has bee a disgrace to boxing for 2 solid years!

Atleast PW has fought tough competition over the same 2 year period!!

I guess Pavlik can continue his "championship" reign against the Lockett's and Espino's of the boxing world!!:-(

 

Be honest for once and change the thread title to "Kelly Pavlik doesn't have to fight Paul Williams anymore, Lockett or Rubio step up to the plate for rematches because they're more popular in Youngstown's trailer park neighborhood".

Pavlik turned down Williams, simple as that. Now that they saw Williams struggled in his last fight they want to fight him. They never bothered to mention him leading up to his yet another defense against a tomato can. Abraham and Williams weren't popular enough but Lockett, Rubio and whoever he fought now are more popular.

 

50/50 isn't fair. Both fighters have taken hits lately, and they are far from big draws relative to the top fighters. But Pavlik is still more popular, the champion and isn't coming off a dubious win.

 

If Williams doesn't want the fight, fine. To call it "ducking" would be absurd.

Team Pavlik have already blown him off TWICE (rightly or wrongly).

He's not big enough to be fighting at 160 anyway, and it wouldn't be a competitive fight.

He's far from taken care of business at 154, where Martinez is probably owed a rematch.

 

Williams must have had serious balls to sign to make the fight in the first place, considering it was virtually guaranteed to derail his career and take years off his mental age. He even agreed to a postponement when he had adequate opportunity to fight someone else.

Plus, he has the opportunity to genuinely duck Martinez - claim he won fair and square, and pick on an easier opponent at 154 - but he's perfectly willing to do a rematch.

I don't like Team Williams any more than you, but the last thing I would do would be to call PW a ducker or a coward.

 

But they're just green, over-hyped bums if Pavlik wins.

 

Good. Pavlik doesn't deserve the fight. He doesn't have many options. He looks like hell above 160 so Williams is the biggest fight he could possibly get.

Pavlik suddenly acts enthusiastic after Williams has a tough fight with Martinez. Very pathetic string of events from Pavlik.

 

i aint saying 50-50 is deserved... but i understand what goosen is trying to do... and it should be goddamn obvious to... pavlik screwed pw out of a lot of stuff... time money & opportunity.... only one can you get back (money)..... i aint saying its right but its understandable
