He has better wins than Naseem Hamed and I'd say you could make a case his best wins are on the same level as the likes of Tszyu, Terry Norris, Julian Jackson, Virgil Hill to name a few. What hurts his legacy is that he never held a world title for a long period of time.

Gatti Ward was an exciting trilogy. However, it’s far from one of boxing’s greatest. There’s levels to the sport and Gatti Ward are clearly levels beneath truly great trilogies such as: Ali Frazier, Barrera Morales, Carbajal Gonzalez...there were HOFers in both corners. An exciting trilogy with a gatekeeper, 0-2 record against Ivan Robinson, and a KO loss to Manfredy are reasons why Gatti does not belong. He also has ZERO wins against an HOF opponent, which PWill does have against Winky and Martinez.

Not enough to be a HOF. If he had not got that tragic accident then he could have had a chance to be.

I wouldn't considered him overrated, he fought his fights... Quintana dominate him by controling distance, beat split with Sergio...he beat Margo and had chanced to upset and beat Canelo if not for the accident...difficult to say... But overrated, he was not!

LOL! I won't complain if he does, just that I agree with the consensus HOF seems more about nominating over a feel good story & no longer by the numbers. Gatti shouldn't be in but it is what it is.

M'man... Gatti vs Ward trilogy is almost universally ranked in the top 10 trilogies of all time.

If youre in the top 10 all time in a sport as old and heralded as boxing.... youre one of the greatest in that category.

Now, if it happens to not be in your top 10.... fair enough I guess, but youre in the extreme minority in that, imo.

No HOF vote for me but he was a real good fighter. Freakishly tall, long and rangy. 2 time WBO welterweight champ but resume was missing big names. His unified title fight with Sergio was the top of his resume although it was a L. Shame what happened to him because he would have been HOF worthy had he been able to keep boxing

Gatti Ward was exciting. However, my comment about levels goes deeper. I think any promoter without a cash cow to coddle can pit two evenly matched fighters against each other in a trilogy that’s even more “exciting” than the universally recognized great trilogies. Problem is they’d be exciting non-HOFer type fights. If Gatti’s in the HOF, I look forward to fair play ruling the day and being in attendance for Chico Corrales’s induction. Let’s add Juan Laporte, Marlon Starling, and Chris Byrd to that list too.

Definitely not HOFer but one of the guys who didn’t cry about being ducked and was willing to move up to any division to fight anybody.. I always loved the fact that he and Margarito were clearly being ducked by everyone and decided to fight each other and the same can be said for Sergio.. Andrade and Charlo can learn a thing or two from those guys .

Wins over Margarito and Martinez are solid. And he did avenge his loss to Quintana.
But is that enough to get him in there?

Really like the Punisher and he was a very entertaining fighter but I think his resume is rather thin to be considered. Wins over Quintana, Cintron, Margarito, and Martinez just doesn't cut it. It would have helped if he got fights against Pavlik, Cotto, or even Pac and Mayweather.
HOF nowadays is a joke anyways so who knows. I get the feeling they'll let guys like Broner, Judah, or Mayorga in the HOF at some point in the future...

I'd also add Israel Vazquez, Rafael Marquez, Gilberto Roman, Miguel Lora, Sumbu Kalambay, etc.
