he took on someone who Cotto BLASTED OUT..... he fought him again cuz Quintana took his belt and offered him rematch..somehting PW didnt and wouldnt do for Marg after they fought..Now that MArg is telling HIM to wait he is fighting 10 rounders? Why not ATLEAST fight a ranked guy from 147-160 IF you arent going after another title....its called playing it safe..so you dont get Quintana'd again

Even if he fought someone ranked at 154 or 160, it would still be a 10-rounder.

Do you also dock Sugar Ray Robinson for taking nontitle fights in between title bouts in order to stay sharp?

Whatever. Which fighter fights top-10 guys everytime out? Floyd Mayweather was already on the verge of being regarded the p4p best and he fought Henry Bruseles, who i believe was unranked too.

My point is just that not long ago, P-Will got critisized (rightly so, BTW) for talking about wanting to fight this guy or that guy, meanwhile not staying active and thus not working to get the big fights. At least now he's staying busy, and i have full confidence that he'll be fighting other top guys quickly enough.

You have to also consider that there weren't really any big fights available right now.

Well said, Richie. He fought twice this year and will take on his mandatory in November. I'm not going to criticize him for moving up two divisions for a stay busy fight before his mandatory. In fact, it's probably a dangerous move for him, rather than playing it safe and just waiting for his mandatory.

So any 'ranked' fighter is a viable opponent? And here i thought the sanctioning bodies were so full of **** with their rankings.

OK, so you meant a Ring-rated or 'universally recognized' top-10 guy. You didn't really make that clear, but regardless, i talked about big fights being available. A top-10 guy still doesn't automatically make for a big fight.

What i meant was a Clottey, or Margarito, or Mosley or someone like that.

You could maybe bring up Collazo, but that guy has fought once in the 1,5 years since the mosley loss against an opponent weaker than Andy Kolle. Besides, he's not exactly lighting up the boxing websites, calling people out and stating his availibility.

Actually, Kolle who is certainly less talented but much taller and stronger (just as tall as paul i believe) might be more dangerous than some WW fringe contender, like Collazo.

Thing is, both Margarito and Paulie are available at this very moment. Margarito was offered a career high payday and turned it down.

This is the hard fact, Margarito lost to Paul already.. yet it's PAUL that is going after MARGARITO:deal

The opportunity came up for Williams to fight on Vs. a few weeks ago. Because it's on Vs., the budget won't be that big. Which top 10 guy do you think would be willing to fight on short notice, for little money? Also, consider the fact that he has Nov. Any type of bad cut or injury will take away that pay day.
