    No its not...

1 - nobody said reach was everything
2 - williams doesnt back up he circles which negates the whole advantage that backing up would provide
3 - none of those examples fought a fighter that was 6'' taller then them with the other attributes of williams (workrate, stamina, combo punching)
4 - cotto is not tyson, frazier, or marciano...

paul williams is mobile and is always moving...it would be really hard for cotto to get inside. hope this fight happens tho...i don't see any fighter calling out paul williams...his style if very dangerous for welterweights.

The pole doesnt mean anything.... there were polls on here before the Lacy vs JC and Tito vs Winky fights... didnt reflect the outcomes of those fights believe me....

    just like this one wont.

people dont see to understand that... Williams is ALWAYS moving, his hands AND his feet...

he is jabbing, crossing, side stepping, double jab... hook, hook, side stepping, backing up then lunging in, hes got this great rythem...

If anyone at 147 is going to beat him... it will be margarito in a rematch, otherwise nobody is going to do it there....

I like Williams, and I think he is a very good fighter. He is well rounded, and better technically then people give credit for. However he has been backed up before. He looked very uncomfortable and got tagged when getting backed up by the decidededly average Mathysse, and even when guys like Mitchell (who was beyond shot) were coming forward he didnt cope with it well. He does use good lateral movement, but Cotto when moving forward behind his jab is extremely quick on his feet, and will move forward MUCH faster then Williams will move laterally. The reason I gave those exapmles is to emphasise how those fighters would beat taller opponents. You say that they examples I gave never faced taller, top level opponents? WHAT RUBBISH. How about Ali? Or Frank Bruno for Tyson or Razor Ruddock, or Carl Williams? I could keep going all day. I am supremely confident on this one, and will give you a 3 month avatar bet if this eventuates.... DEAL?

Cotto is certainly an elite fighter. The difference between him and the fighters mentioned is that Cotto is more well rounded as a boxer. Your analysis on this one is WAY off. You mention Marg as being the one to beat him... Marg was always going to lose to Williams. He had trouble in the past with Southpaws (Santos), doesn't have the defence needed to get inside the offense of Williams, and being a taller fighter isn't used to moving his head and upperbody to get inside and go to work.

Reach includes the width across the shoulders to the end of the finger tips, while the true measure of a boxer's reach is the arm length (armpit to the end of the fist). At 5'8, Mayweather has an incredible arm length of 26 inches which is the same as Wladamir Klitschko. Williams has an arm lenth of 24.5 inches. Most of his reach is due to his broad shoulders. If you don't believe my stats, go back and watch HBO fights with those fights and look at the tale of the tape.

you come with your argument MSTR and its not a bad one but we will just have to agree to disagree and wait for the fight :good I for one used to hope they dont fight because i like cotto... more then williams actually, and want to see 147 be HIS division, with him as king... and i just dont see it with williams there, and id like williams to move up to 154...

but if they fight.... i will be looking forward to discussing how it went with you eather way :thumbsup

Well... if hes not killing himself to make the weight, or cheating to make the weight, he has every right to be there as anyone else... as much as i hate that.

Id love to see him move to 154... but WW is where the legacy and money are... cant fault him for calling out the two best fighters around him, in HIS division....

i just wonder how bad he is trying to make these weights... i hope he understands the toll it has on the body, though i understand hes somewhat of a gym rat himself... but i hope he moves up at the right time.

Fair enough. I hope this fight goes through, I think it will be great for boxing. Certainly one thing that we can agree on is that it is an exciting contrast of styles.

He is entitled to fight at whatever weight he can legally make, so I totally agree with you on this one. All he is doing is using his god given gifts, same as a naturally stocky or muscular fighter would do.

Williams too long for both Cotto and PBF thats what I believe but not as good or exciting a fighter as either, would win based on two advantages of height and reach.
