I like PW, especially in the ring. But he comes off slightly disengenious and cliche with statements like "I never planned on being the most feared and avoided man in boxing." Of course he did. Its part of being good. I guess this is HBO script wrtiters talking and not him.
Without Pavlik he's just so ****ed. 154 has no worthy names yet and the only 147 guy who would have the sack to fight him is Clottey. And that's a fine matchup but it's nothing earth shattering. 160 is a wasteland outside Pavlik. I think it's a live possibility that HBO asks Dawson to drop to 168 and these two hook up sometime in 2010. Dawson is without a fight outside of Pascal. Super 6 is great for boxing, great for some boxers, but really hurts a couple on the outside looking in.
Listen to the content of the words. He says that he never planned on being the most feared man in boxing, which is garbage. Of course he did or at least hoped for. It means you're good. That's why I say that the comment is insincere. It's a pure marketing comment. Obv. HBO has a stake in making him look good. And when he talks about being so avoided by everyone, again he's massaging his ego and trying to keep his name out there. There are plenty of fighters who have fought him and most elite fighters such as him get avoided to some extent.
of course, that fight has to remain on the radar. PW has no other options. KP may have Bute, but certainly HBO would pay much more for KP-PW than that.
exactly, this is why Pav deserves a lot of respect. In actuality him splitting a check with Paul helps Paul out moreso than it does himself. Pav has options from 160 to 168 and up to another 170 catchweight
So he entered boxing thinking "I will be the most feared man, and win an award for it!" That is dumb. They probably said "how do you feel about the title of being the most feared" They set these interviews up to look like the guy is just talking instead of answering questions. He sounds sincere to me.
huh? KP deserves a lot of respect for exactly what? In case you didn't notice, HBO isn't paying Pavlik a dime anymore unless he brings a live opponent to the table. They learned their lesson after the Lockett debacle. So it works both ways. Pavlik has no options at 160 as far as HBO is concerned. Pavlik-Sturm probably would not even interest them and that is far fetched anyway. Sure KP-Bute is possible, but that is less $ than KP-PW. So if he wants less $ to fight a bigger man...go for it...wouldn't surprise me
