I stand corrected. I predicted a wright win by decision and williams slaughtered him. I thought wright could over come the almost 2 year layoff, but i was wrong. After watching the whippin he gave wright i don't believe the layoff even mattered. Williams is the truth. I am a converted believer. I tell all the williams nay sayers to face the truth, williams is the truth. His ability to through nearly a hundred punches a round at his size is scary. I do not believe its fair for him to fight at welter, but i do not begrudge the man. If he makes the weight thats all that matters. I incorrectly predicted the winky would use ring generalship and superior defense to stop williams, but there is no defense for a thousand punches at multiple angles. Too unpredictable. Paul williams is a top ten p4p fighter. I will swallow my words, the man is an excellent fighter. Ironically, the proof of how good he is will not come from his next fight, but by winky's next fight. Winky is a very good fighter, paul williams is just a better fighter than winky and many other very good fighters.
winky is not washed up. That was the point i made at the end of my post. I believe wright's ability to continue to box at a high level will validate williams' victory.
I thought it was Pacquiao who retroactively made fighters old and washed-up... though Merchant did ask Williams if he felt sorry for beating up an old man! Great post, lamarn403! I'm almost too excited to see what Winky's like in his next fight and gauge both him and Williams better. :bbb
downside? yes washed up? no he wouldve beaten alot of fighters tonight not named PW. cant say pavlik or abraham but i know he'd beat sturm.
Full cred for breaking down Winky's crawling turtle defense. I have always hated his "jab, jab, back into the shell" style.
why do you have to be converted believer? yea he is good and a very bright prospect, but putting him in a pedestal and start calling him the truth is wrong.
Time will tell, we don't know for sure. Wright might come good but he is getting on & hadn't fought in a while.
