Something that nullifies punch output is power... Kelly has power and has it in both hands. Paul Williams we all know isn't a crafty fighter who avoids punches, he takes punches as he gives out his own punishment, but he's used to taking punches from welterweights and at most light middleweights. There hasn't been a fight where Paul's opponents haven't been able to get some good shots on him, so I don't see how Pavlik won't be able to do the same. However, the difference is Pavlik is experienced in this field; that is what he does. He knows he's gonna be the naturally bigger, stronger guy, so he's gonna be hunting William's down. Unless Williams drastically improves his defense, I am not sure how he's gonna avoid Pavlik. I don't believe Williams will be able to knock down or hurt Pavlik. Its really unfair, besides the tale of the tape stats, how a guy coming from fighting mainly at ww and lm is supposed to come up and take out the reigning middle weight champ. I just don't think PW is that good to be able to do that.

One thing about Pavlik/Williams is that there aren't more than a handful of currently active middleweights who could give Williams a good fight. My feeling is that, due to styles and physical attributes, Sturm and David Lopez would give PW a decent fight, but they wouldn't beat him. So, if KP wants to stay at 160, Williams is the only real challenge.

Williams is much faster than Pavlik and that's a fact.

You may disagree but you seem like you not only have a selective memory, you also have selective vision.

Even though he's technically not a MW any more, Abraham would have beat both guys. Just throwing that out there.

Abraham would get Pavlikated in under 8 rounds AT ANY WEIGHT! That is why Sauerland NEVER made ANY effort to make the fight happen! They talked a lot of ****, but NEVER attempted serious negotiations. Arthur Abraham's title reign was nothing more than a carefully crafted marketing gimmick, and talking **** about Pavlik was a huge part of that gimmick.

    Are you kidding???

There were SEVERAL instances where there was a promised fight by Bob Arum. You know why it eventually fell through? Because Arum would promise a tune-up fight (Mora) in which Pavlik would take forever to ramp up for the fight, and then eventually pull out on an injury. And you know why that happened? Because everybody in boxing was aware of how much harder and harder it was becoming for Abraham to make 160. He was drained and suffering for it in the ring. They wanted to wait until AA was drained to the bone, or just left the division.

IDK where you get your info about Abraham from, but that is ridiculous. How come Kelly rarely mentioned Abraham, yet AA himself was always targeting Pavlik? And that's just one aspect on how your statement is ridiculous. It's Bob Arum who kept Kelly away from that fight, ESPECIALLY post-Hopkins.

Calm down, Officer. The topic is still relevant to this thread. I said he'd beat BOTH of them. :)

i know its the promoters and im not about to say one person ducked another or throw aa under the bus. i wish aa all the best at smw even tho i'll be pulling for jt. it is a ballzy move on his part to put his whole career on the line fighting smw's of this caliber when he hasnt even fought anyone at mw (miranda whatever)

but this aa always talking about pav doesnt mean there was ever a serious offer from EITHER side for a fight. if you watch the post fight interview w/ aa after miranda II...you will see that he did in fact call out pav...but listen to who else he called out merely seconds after...

ill give you a hint, his initials are oscar de la hoya.

does this mean that he was serious about that?? no it doesnt.
does this mean that either aa or odlh were ducking one another? no it doesnt.

but it is something comical i like to bring up when people talk about how much aa was calling pav out. :D:D:D

How much did Sauerland offer Pavlik to fight in Germany?
How much did Sauerland ask for to fight in Atalantic City?
How much did HBO, or any other network, offer for the fight?
What was the proposed purse spilt?

You can't answer any of those questions because Abraham NEVER entered into serious negotiations. He talked smack knowing full well that Sauerland would not let the fight happen. Meantime AA fought voluntary defenses against such greats as #29 ranked Mahir Oral, #43 ranked LuJaun Simon, and of course the legendary Elvin Ayala!

Get real! Pavlik had a choice of opponents, and CHOSE Bernard Hopkins. Abraham had a choice and CHOSE the great LuJaun Simon! And who is AA's next opponent, Taylor, a two time Pavlik victim who lost 3 of his last 4 fights! Somebody in this scenario is a protected hype job, and it ain't Pavlik!

It's Abraham taking part in the SMW tourney, where the best fighters are. Taylor is just the first step, and he's still a challenge for anybody.

Why didn't Pavlik enter the tourney? Protected, my ass.

It fell apart because of the 'staff' last time and came together this time because HBO flexed their muscle.
