What you're saying is somewhat true. He's not a polished boxer. He's not exactly coordinated with his punches. He gets by, to some degree, based on his natural physical advantages along with his work rate and stamina. But the guy is still young and has time to refine his game.

Find a quote where I say "Juan Manuel Marquez should be unbeaten".

There is a legitimate arguement that he could have recieved the decision in all of the fights he lost. I think most reasonable people on ESB would support that notion.

If he can make weight...that then makes it HIS WEIGHT!!! We give credit to Duran for being the greatest LW of all time...but wait, he fought all the way up to MW...does this discount him from his accolades at LW?

Doesnt really make sense now, does it???

If a fighter can condition himself down to a weight that is still comfortable for him to compete in, then how is that a bad thing? Williams is not one of these guys who comes into the ring 15 or 20 pounds heavier than his weigh in weight...hell, Quintana OUTWEIGHED HIM during their 2nd fight.

As for his talent...that is debatable. I think he is ultra fast for his size, his stamina is phenominal, he attacks from angles VERY well, his power is underrated and when he uses his jab to take advantage of his length, he is a tough fight for ANYONE! But his defense is terrible and his footwork is average...for someone to beat him they are gonna have to use movement to keep him off balance, use their timing to negate his speed and take advantage of the openings he leaves defensively.

    Much like Quintana did.

Unfortunately this isnt Margo's strength...he is a bull who looks to wear you down with an enormous amount of punches from the inside. He is also lacking defensively and for most of the fight vs Williams, failed to get inside, therefor was left ineffective. His movement isnt good enough to keep Williams off balance (coming forward like Michael Myers in Halloween 27 isnt good movement LOL) and his game isnt predicated off of timing. Williams style is just a bad matchup for Margo.

If they fight again, he loses again by UD (cause aint noone KOing Margo and Williams has shown he can take Margo's power...).

    Point taken.

Still, awful thread designed to discredit a fighter who struggles to get respect anyhow. Stop doing it.

how is that an awful thread? IMO he isnt as talented as we give him credit for.. he has fought the majority of his career above WW and even above JM....so knocking out a WW who schooled in the first figh isnt saying that much IMO

How would Paul Williams have been viewed had he gone on to be the #1 guy at Welterweight without having rematched Quintana?

Margarito has fought at Junior Middleweight, but the man is a legitimate Welterweight just as Paul Williams is. If the fighters can get down to 147 for fight night, then they are welterweights.

Is Williams the tallest WW ever? He's listed at 6'1" but he's more like 6'2".

Would you agree that Paul Williams is a more talented boxer than Antonio Margarito?

How would Quintana been viewed had he not given PW a rematch then went on to lose to Judah or someone...?

    Doesnt make any sense...

Fighters move up and down in weight all of the time...and as I said, Williams isnt the type of fighter who comes into the ring over the weight he is fighting at. Vs Quintana, he weight LESS than Carlos. He is more in the mold of a Hopkins, who when fighting at a weight comes into the ring AT or BELOW the weight he is fighting at (lets not forget Oscar outweighed Hopkins come fight night). He is not like a Clottey who jumps 2 or 3 (or more like vs Coralles) weight classes after weighing in under.

I understand your a Margo fan...but come on...to knock Williams because he is in great condition and can actually MAKE WEIGHT (how many fighters move up because they dont have the dedication to stay where they SHOULD be???) is insane.

It's possible. I saw the Williams/Margarito fight last week and when they were in their stance, Williams seemed to have 6 inches over Margarito at the shoulders. Margarito looked like the considerably smaller man.
