Who cares if he fought at MW half a decade ago? Thats a whole different state of his body we are talking about. We are talking about terribly lanky Welterweight Paul Williams moving up to 160 in a relatively short period of time and fighting the king of the division.

The thing that worries me most is the fact that P Will has toothpicks for legs. Pavlik will probably be able to walk him down late and stop him.

I will be going to see Pavlik in his Sept fight in AC as long as it's someone like Williams, Mora or someone good.

he brings nothing to the table against pavlik,.... he's smaller, shorter, his power doesnt compare.....he's not that good of boxer to keep away from pavlik for 12 rounds.... the idea of the fight is ridiculous to me, theres not a thing paul williams can do to keep pavlik off of him......dont get me wrong, i dont like pavlik, but be realistic here........paul would get destroyed

Williams has been an exciting welter beacuse he usually has all the advantages but he won't at middleweight but at least he will come to fight and there will be a lot of action. Its not like there is a more exciting fight out there. Winky and Abraham are the only ones I can think of and a Winky fight wouldn't be exciting and the Abraham fight will come in early 2009. I've been hearing a lot about Williams being faster but 13 more pounds will definitely slow him down some but he may still have ok power but can he take a shot from a middlewight with power. I don't think there are much better options for Pavlik

Too skinny. This is a Mismatch. I want Winky for Pavlik. But Winky is overpricing his boring ass. I would love see Pavlik to KO Winky out.

Not only did he start at MW but he also walks into his welter fights at 160+ lbs.

He is not too small for Pavlik. The damn divisions are only a division apart. Remember Spinks - Taylor?

Williams is only about an inch shorter than pavlik with longer arms. Williams is plenty big enough to fight at middleweight. Size isn't the issue. The issue is that Williams is doing a jump from 147 to 160. That's maybe not enough time to condition his body to fighting at 160. And unless Williams has no plans to return to 147 (which is possible as he may privately blame his loss to Quintas to weight drain) he needs avoid putting on any "muscle mass".

I see this as a Pavlik win but I think that Williams will put up a good fight.

I would not be as quick to dismiss Paul Williams chance against Kelly Pavlik. I don't think he is too small for Pavlik and I don't think Pavlik is a cinch to win. Kelly has TNT in his gloves, but Williams has good footwork and fast hands. One thing we know is that Pavlik will be coming through the front door, its just a matter if Williams can weather the storm for the whole fight. Kelly is not the total package, he is a bit of a plodder and he gets hit too much. They Williams camp might see something in Kelly's style that they feel gives them a shot. Either way, it is going to be interesting.

    pw reach is longer
    1 inch shorter
more active than anyone who pav has ever fought
more jittery than anyone who pav has ever fought
is the most offensive technical fighter pav has ever fought

pav just has the advantage in power and thats it

Most fighters fight at lower weights later in their career when they have more motivation and are more efficient at cutting weight. Also weight becomes a competative edge. Duddy is coming down in weight to give himself an edge at 154...

I agree that this will be closer than Lockett-Pavlik. But I'm sick of seeing Jermaine Taylor fight lower weight guys...how is this any different than Spinks-Taylor?

btw-- ANY ****ing boxer can fight BUMS at 10+ lbs above their best weight and win.

That's where Paul Williams fought at 160 and 154-- against BUMS.

He's not too small. He'll be fine at MW if he chooses to go up that high.

He is too hittable however...and against a guy like Pavs, it's not a very wise quality to have.
