He's not a welterweight and is using the system to get an unfair advantage. just because its in the rules doesnt make it a good rule. he is no more a welterweight than Jorge Arce was a light flyweight... He should go to 154 atleast.
I think Williams deserves to be in there now. I still think Margarito would beat him in a rematch, but it's becoming less and less likely that is going to happen. Williams could clear out 154, it's not a strong division IMO. He's a very talented fighter. I like The Ring's top 10 all in all.
One could argue Wlad deserves to have P4P status if we're talking in terms of accomplishments. He hasn't lost since 04 (I believe), he's beaten everyone put in front of him and has some decent names sprinkled in there. I may not AGREE with it but the argument for him is there.
Margarito's just as bad. He's no more a welter than Williams. He also has an unfair size advantage and only fights at 147 cause when he goes to his natural weight he has trouble with the bigger guys.
i think Hatton doesn't belong. He had one win against Tszyu that was impressive to most, and since then nothing worthy of a top10 p4p spot. If anything he has had several poor performances, including Urango, Collazo, Mayweather, and Lazcano. That win over Tszyu was over 3 years ago.
And for beating the guy who's #7, possibly? It is P4P after all; the ability for a 147 pounder to convincingly beat even cupcakes at 160 helps.
I see no issues myself with the list. Williams destroying Quintana, beating Margarito, and moving up and keep winning is warranted of a top 10 place in my view.
I agree. There is no way Hatton can be considered worthy of a top 10 placing. The Castillo fight was 18 months ago, and he wasn't impressive against Mayweather or Lazcano in the mean-time. That's not top 10 p4p form.
You can argue that he has an advantage because of his height, but you could also argue that he puts himself at a disadvantage for weighing in so low, because that makes him weaker. The rules are the same for everyone. If you can weigh in at 147 lbs or lower, you are a welterweight. This and nothing else is what being a welterweight means. It's not how tall you are or how hard you can punch or how big your biceps are or how fast you are over 100 m.
I disagree. I'm not saying he HAS to be there but he deserves some consideration. If beating Carlos Quintana and Andy Kolle is enough to earn him top 10 status (being PW) then wins over Castillo and Lazcano are enough too. And you said the Castillo fight was 18 months ago...but the fight between Williams and Margo was no more than two weeks later IIRC.
