Paul Williams Makes Ring Magazine P4P Top 10

No, but what the hell does that have to do with it? I don't see how it's relevant. A 147 pounder who can beat decent prospects at 160 (and as he will prove in a month) and beltholders at 154 makes him a better P4P fighter.

 

What recent win does Hatton have that's as good as a win over Margarito?

FWIW, I have Hatton rated ahead of PW P4P (I don't take H2H into account all that much in my P4P rankings, and purely based on record, I think Hatton's resume is a lot better than PW's). I'm just curious which of Hatton's recent wins is better than the best of Williams' recent wins. There's a pretty decent argument that a win over Quintana is better than a win over Castillo, but that's a whole different story.

My point was that it wasn't anything amazing. He's fought at 160 and is better suited for that weight. It's not like Pac going up to 147 going into a weight range he has no experience in, it was Williams going back to his more suited weight to take on a C quality fighter.

Yeah, but it's still impressive. Something few can actually do. I don't know how Williams can move from WW to MW so easily and go back and forth.

I also think that his ability to take guys out helps him out. So that there is some variation in his style.

 

If that's what you're basing it off of...one win then fine, you're right.

If you're looking at collective recent history:

We have Hatton losing to the P4P #1 in FMJ compared to Paul losing to Carlos Quintana.

We have Hatton beating Lazcano and JLC (who I guess is his most recent fight unless I forgot one) compared to Paul beating Quintana in a rematch (impressively) and beating Andy Kolle.

Ya know what? I think this argument should be held off until the end of November early december.

Both have big fights coming up and if Paul is much more convincing in victory than Hatton is, I have no problem saying he deserves the P4P spot above him.

 

It doesn't matter for P4P purposes. Very few fighters can jump between three different weight classes and look good at all three. Pavlik tried jumping 10 pounds and got his ass whooped. Nobody's arguing that it's as impressive as Pacquiao, but it helps.

 

While I see what you're trying to say here....there's a big difference between Bernard Hopkins and Andy Kolle.

As I said, I think this should be revisited in a few weeks. I'd be more than happy to say I was wrong if Paul does much better than Hatton does.

 

Can't make everyone happy. Solid list if you ask me.

Williams's win over Margarito is a far far better win than Hatton's over Castillo IMO, and Williams's 1st round KO of Quintana far far better than Hatton's win over Lazcano.

But Williams LOST to a much lesser fighter in Quitana. Hatton lost in a game fight to FMJ, the P4P #1.

Yes, I agree. If Hatton beats Malignaggi and Williams loses to Phillips, then I would place Hatton above Williams.

 

And if the opposite would occur, I'd easily concede defeat.

No he doesn't he was ordinary against Lazcano and annhilated by Mayweather.

 

Williams is my number eleven.He will move down if he doesn't beat Phillips convincingly.
