“I believe the money with Mosley wasn't what he thought it would be and he knows that Mosley stands a chance of beating him and that would knock him out of the picture." PW - this is exactly what I think about Margo turning down Shane. What I find absurd is that some guys find it positive ( for Mosley) since Shane seems to be well past his best and Margo would just walk all over him... Oh, Yeah? So why doesn't he take him for a warm-up for those mega-fights he is mostly looking forward to? Makes no sense.

Margo nver asked for a rematch, he asked to named the no.1 contender. The WBO did just that, but allowed Williams to make an optional defense first. Regardless, Williams has maintained that he wanted to unify the belts at 147. He had a chance to do so against Cintron after he beat Margo. Once Cintron pulled out, Goosen offered Margo a chance to take his place and Margo turned it down.

    Williams has moved on.

Mayweather is retired and Oscar is fighting Pac. Margo is fighting no one and Williams says he would be ready for a January or February fight.

    I highly doubt that.

Arum won't let Cotto in the same arena as Williams. Wiliams has called him out on numerous occasions only to be ignored. Top Rank had a perfect opportunity to make this fight after Williams beat Margo, they chose otherwise.

Margarito doesn't want to fight williams because of 2 reasons.

    1. Williams throws those hundred plus punches right down the middle and margarito cant keep up with that for a whole fight.

    2. Just like cotto found out he couldn't hurt margarito. Margarito found out he couldn't hurt Williams. From the 6th round on, Margarito was catching williams with some bombs and everytime he did, williams came back with 8 straight punches. Margarito couldn't slow him down with the bombs to the body and the head. Margarito doesn't want to take that risk again because if you don't knock out a guy with handspeed who throws 100+ punches per round you lose. It's as simple as that.

You're right, Arum isn't stupid. He knows Williams is a bad matchup for Cotto, and he's not going let Cotto take another "L" unless the fight makes a **** load of money and/or Cotto's opponent is a Top Rank fighter. Once Cotto wins another paper title by beating Jennings for the WBO belt, Top Rank will control 3 of the 4 belts. This will allow him to freeze Williams out of any big fights in the division. Williams is only going to get a big fight at WW if he becomes someone's mando.

Williams not getting a fight with Cotto has everything to do with risk vs. reward and nothing to do with accomplishments. Williams has been a top 5 WW for a while now as well as a title holder. He also owns wins over Margo and Quintana. Look at the guys Cotto has fought at Welter. Pretty much all of them have accomplished less than Williams or have lost to Williams.

He fights for 12 round when he has the size and strength over smaller , weaker fighters, its quite deferent when your fighting someone your own size.

He wants to fight Sergiy :scaredas:

Wow, I have a new found respect for Paul Williams. Definitely didn't see that coming, a real tough challenge that would get him a lot of credit from hardcore boxing fans, when he could really look for a bigger, easier fight.

Yep. He's not scared or trying to make the most money, he just wants to be known as the number 1 fighter.

He didn't even disrespect Sergiy though. I could imagine a lot of American fighters in his position saying "Who?"

He would have a lot of courage to take that fight when he already got his ass whooped by a southpaw counterpuncher, a lesser one.
