That's a nice try Saul, but I'm not buying it. Many Margo fans claim Margo was injured during the Clottey fight and was coming off a long layoff. In the Williams fight, he was healthy and coming off a shorter layoff. The Cotto excuse is also garbage. Margo was scheduled to face Cotto if he beat Williams. So I'm not buying that.

Against Clotttey, Margo was injured and rusty yet won a clear decision. Against Williams, he was healthy and not as rusty yet he lost. Yet somehow, you've come to the conclusion that Clottey is a tougher fight for Margo than is Williams. I'm sorry, but this defies logic and common sense. Now, if you want to say that Clottey's hand injury was legit and the reason he lost, then you have a point. However, you didn't mention it so I'm going to assume that you don't believe the alleged injury affected the outcome.

dude that was full of excuses, Margo had everything in order when he started his camp for the Williams fights. Not to mention that it was MONEY that kept Margo from fighting Cotto and not his LOVE for that belt. Margo's team felt that Arum lowballed them for the Cotto fight, Arum told them that was the only offer he was getting and if he didnt like it he could go fight Williams. Margo said f-you I will. At which point Arum did everything in his power to stop the fight.

to his fans who are borderline fans, to those who've heard of Williams but are not really fans, who know about boxing but not that much, who saw MArgo beat Cotto but don't really know much about boxing. Those people, when they hear "Margo is scared of Williams, and Williams already beat Margarito", it will have an effect. Or else his promoter wouldn't be doing it.

btw i spend at least 8 hours a day posting on esb :deal

Yes, I'm using 99 percentile projection to make the statement that Margarito is a star. I would say it's far more than just safe to say that Margarito is a star. Based on the general sort of theoritical logic that we use here on this forum, for all sorts of subjects, when you factor in the fanbase Margarito is tied into, the history of how these sorts of these things come about (have a look at how Cotto became a "star" as an example), the PPV numbers from Cotto/Margarito, the fact that Margarito was scheduled for a PPV date with Joshua Clottey (that was cancelled), and other assorted information and associated common sense... Margarito is a star.

Margarito and Williams are in a somewhat similiar position based on some of the things you're mentioning here, generically speaking. Williams isn't going to become a star though, will he? He doesn't have four million people who will jump on his nuts just because of his demographic like Margarito, even if he manages to get some breakthrough wins. The extent of Paul Williams' reputation as a figure at this point is based on the fact that he's this "most ducked" guy that Margarito was, just here, in the hardcore community. The networks and the outlets stroked the Margarito "most feared" angle because it would lead somewhere. The Paul Williams "most feared" angle is getting stroked by Dan Goosen, because Goosen's pockets are as far as this thing is going to get.

You can try and put Margarito and Williams on the same level, Reg, but they ain't on the same level.

How much was being ducked by Mayweather, ect, doing for Margarito before the Cotto fight?

I was referring to all of us, I spend 10 hours a day posting on ESB, BTW.

alot. Enough to get Cotto vs Margarito several hundred thousand (500?) ppv buys, coupled with their headliner on HBO of course.

Margarito being Mexican and Cotto being Puerto Rican got Top Rank 500,000 buys. All the hype about Cotto and Margarito being huge bad-asses, and the stylistics of the fight, got Top Rank 500,000 buys. If what you're saying is true than there would have been all sorts of reflected interest in everything Margarito did going back to 2006 if it was all about "Mayweather ducking Margarito," and the fact is the interest isn't anywhere reflected. It doesn't just show up all of the sudden for one of the most exciting matchups the sport has seen in years.

well obviously you can't put it all on 1 factor. Part of Margarito being a huge badass is the fact that he was considered one of the most avoided fighters in boxing. Its just a part of the promotion, not the entire thing. I'm just saying if calling out other fighters didn't work, the fighters wouldn't do it.

Margarito, PW, Haye, etc etc etc the list goes on and on.

Haye hasn't fought in a long time and people are still talking about him because he calls out Wlad every 5 seconds.

    Again.

I tend to agree with most of what you say, aside from that Cotto pick.

Williams refused to give Margarito a rematch.

Williams said did not want to fight Pavlik.
