Dissappointed to say the least, but it's his life to do with whatever he pleases.. he give any reason for retirement? Will read the entire transcript when I get home....

 

Don't see why he should retire so early. Not a bad set of closing fights, though. Better a bit early than late, I guess?

 

I remember reading an interview a couple of years ago where Paul Williams said his lifelong ambition was to fight anyone and everyone, so he'd be ranked alongside Tommy Hearns when he retired. So disappointing that one KO defeat seems to have decimated his ambitions. I really think he should forget Martinez and dedicate himself to becoming the best lightmiddleweight he can be. There are good enough opponents there that he could still become an HOF fighter (Cotto, Canelo, maybe even Victor Ortiz or Floyd Mayweather if they move up at some point).

 

terry norris got smashed by julian jackson came back and beat john mugabi/donnald curry/meldrick taylor fought simon brown and got KTFO again came back beat brown and kicked ass and unified all the titles till about 1997 a few fighters could take a page from norrises book

 

Damn, never thought PW would just back out like that, he struck me as a guy that would come back after that KO and be himself again, and as Popkins pointed out try to beat everyone, and rank up with the Hitman(not that I thought he'd ever be ranked that high, but I thought he'd try). Very disappointing, kinda changes how I think he'll perform against Lara a bit, I still think he'll win, but I'm getting a bad feeling about it.

While that is quite an accomplishment and Terry Norris was awesome, Terry Norris also had his license revoked due to evidence of chronic brain injury.

Good post. He can make good money, establish a legacy at 154, and retire with nothing to be ashamed of (not that he has, but he may feel different). He should try and go up the rankings @ JrMW, take as many belts as he can, and force those people who wants the belts have to fight him. WHich is what he shoulda done at 147 to be honest.
