No, his promoter forced him to drop that belt. The IBF has specific rules which state that unification bouts take priority over mandos.

Arum probably wanted two of his fighters to have belts so he can set both of them up for a bigger match or something else down the road.

Personally, I think it was a good decision. It prevented Clottey form getting his title shot delayed and it gives Margo more flexibility. Had Margo held onto that belt, he would've been forced to either fight Clottey, fight Williams, or vacate the belt anyway.

I don't know, I think it would have been better to let Margo keep the belt go into a fight with Cotto and come out only needing one more fight (against Williams) to have a huge Floyd come out of retirement fight, in the event that Margo won.

I don't think Floyd is coming out retirement anytime soon.

They made the right decision with Margo, in my opinion. All he had to do is win that first fight and he would have been in prime position.

I think he is waiting for someone to pick up the mantle so that it would generate interest in him coming back. If Cotto won, then beat De La Hoya, I'm 100% sure his next fight would have been Floyd. Margo kind of killed the money, but I can see the WW champ, especially if he becomes the undisputed champ, coaxing floyd out of retirement for a huge payday.

I think Floyd's hands are ****ed up. Unless they heal, I don't see him getting in the ring with a Margo or a Cotto or any other legit threat out there.
