Actually, most real boxing fans knew how good Martinez was before he fought Williams. He was unknown to the general public, and truly was avoided in the same sense that Vernon Forrest was avoided; the risk for reward factor was just too great.

 

And don't forget the late Forrest avoided to fight Martinez when Martinez was the mandatory challenger for over a year. I didn't want to mention Forrest cause he pass away but man.
