I think everyone is a little quick to dismiss Williams moving up two weight divisions against Pavlik. Remember what B-Hop did against Tarver a few years ago, dominating him at light heavy? Dont forget that before that fight conventional wisdom was that he was moving up in weight too much and that Tarver would win.

Williams has to starch himself to make weight, and will be considerably stronger at 160 (presumably).

Furthermore, his style could give Pavlik problems. He's a lefty, for one. And Pavlik won't have a big reach advantage over him as usual.

I see him landing his straight left power punch on Pavlik quite a bit, and it will be interesting to see what happens. Williams has some power on that when he sits down on it (ask Quintana!). And he punches STRAIGHT- something Taylor, Miranda, Zertuche, and Zuniga (Pavlik's only other real tests) don't do.

I for one think it will be a great fight!

I don't see why Williams doesn't have a tune up at 154 or 160 before jumping up and facing the best right away

I don't know why this fight is even being considered.. I have to disagree with you, I see Williams getting the beat down of his life..

Pavlik's gonna starch this kid. What made Williams so effective was the huge height advantage he had over guys at 147. He's not gonna have that luxury against KP. I think this fight is insulting to boxing fans. Arums doing the same thing DiBella was doing w/ Taylor when he was champ at 160...setting up fights with champions from smaller weight classes. I'd much rather see Pavlik fight Rubio, Duddy, or a rematch with Zuniga until a unification bout with AA can be made. At least have the guy fight real middleweights for ****s sake! I just don't see Williams posing much of a threat. Willaims is the same height as Taylor, but he doesn't move like Taylor and is IMO easier to hit. Again, I don't see this ending in anything but via brutal KO by "The Ghost". Pavlik KO 8.

...also, how the hell can you compare Williams to a brilliant technician like B-hop? Apples and Oranges kid. The only similarity is, he's gonna move up 2 weight classes. It takes Hall of Fame talents like mosely and hopkins to pull that off...Williams is not cut from their cloth. But who knows, maybe time will prove me wrong.

Shades of Tarver and Hopkins ? Oh brotha ..I really hope that Williams makes it out this fight with enough sense to go back to welter or jr middle ..Its insane for him not to at least fight a tune up before going against one of the hardest pucnhers at middle ..This fight makes no sense .Arum just pulled a Don King move !

it'd be different if Williams was randomly "drafted" into this fight or something...but he WANTS it. he knows himself better than we do, and must be confident for whatever reason. thats kind of the x-factor im banking on

obviously, I'm not going to convince you here, but I think he'll acquit himself well and surprise people. we'll see...

Interview where boxing is "seen" indicates that he just can't get a good fight. None of the top guys at WW will get in with him and there is nothing LMW so and he wants to fight the best available.

There are **** all shades of anything, because Pavlik isn't an old man spending more time in Hollywood than the gym, and Williams sure as hell ain't an astute counterpuncher with good defence, he's already been exposed once.

Come on. I'm trying hard to convice myself that this would be a good fight. It's easier since I've never seen him fight, but you keep coming up with this crap....

I have to disagree here as well. I mean what exactly could Paul Williams bring to the ring that could bother Kelly Pavlik? It's not like he's somekind of defensive countering genius who will make Kelly miss and pay all night, he doesn't hit hard enough to bother Pavlik, and he's way too hittable. Which isn't a good thing when you're jumping up two weight divisions to face a deadly puncher. This fight just makes no sense whatsoever. :verysad

Williams should change his moniker to masochist instead of punisher if he wants to fight Pavlik.

The last definite word on this fight came from Cameron Dunkin yesterday. Dunkin said he had not talked to Kelly or his dad yet, and that the fight was a long way from a done deal.

This crap is the brain child of Paul Williams himself. Paul WANTS this fight. However, there is a problem with that. Here's a smattering of things fighters and trainers said about Pavlik BEFORE they fought him.

"This kid's never been past 9 rounds. I'm just gonna take him out in deep water and drown him."

    "He gets hit to much."

"Kelly Pavlik will be competetive with Jermain Taylor for about 2 rounds."

    "He's nothin special."

"He's very predictable. He comes straight at ya."

"He always attacks in straight lines, very predictable."

I think Williams may be falling into the same trap. He sees a fighter that has some fairly obvious flaws, and thinks he can take advantage of those flaws. I also think that if this fight happens, afterward Williams will be talking like other opponents did AFTER they fought Kelly.

"I think this kid may be the real deal."

"He was better than we thought."

"He was a lot faster than I thought he was."

"I just couldn't see the punches coming."

I would love to see how Williams would do against Zuniga and Duddy. He is not ready for Pavlik.

I don't understand it, but OH WELL. My son, according to test scores, one of the smartest people in his age group in the US went out and had a fight last night and got his nose broken. I'm sure on paper this looked like a good idea to him somehow.......:-(
