NO he wasn't, the old Nard would've stopped Pavlik in 8, Hopkins fought in spurts, the sign of an old fighter, believe me if he fought someone like Dawson he would lose, and he knows it too.
Actually he's right about the speed. Paul isn't really a speed guy. He's got speed but not like Joe. Joe is very fast. The work rates are similar although Paul is a bit more busy and consistant with his offense. I'm not saying Paul is slow, but he's definitely not as fast as Joe C.
I'm not saying Nard was PRIME! I'm just saying he was "WORKING" like he use to. I agree. a PRIME Nard would have KO'd PAV. But what I was saying is for the most part as Nard got up there in age he became a more defensive and conservative fighter. With PAV there was nothing conservative about him. He just wasn't phyiscally in his prime but he sure faught like he thought he was.
Williams is a fighter who appears to be improving with each outing. He probably hasn't even reached his peak yet. B-Hop has been there, since it, doen it, got the t-shirt! Despite being in fabulous shape that any young-aged guy would be proud of, Hopkins is 44, & in boxing, despite looking after himself & living the correct lifestyle, sometime the skills have to erode, be it sooner or later! That's my only worry with B-Hop, that he coudl just go on any given night, because it does happen in Boxing! Williams presents a high work rate, something which would trouble Bernard. It would be a case of Hopkins trying, like he always does, of waiting for Williams to committ, then making him pay for mistakes he makes! 170lbs might be a bit too much of leap in weight. Sure, I'm confident Paul could carry the weight, but size & strength wise, I do not think he matches up well with Hopkins, who is now strong at LHW! Its a close fight imo, & it would probably come down to preference! Williams' all out action, throwing more shots, forcing the pace, trying to force the issue, or B-Hop's counters, carefully selected shots. If the fight did happen & Williams won, I've no doubt people would not give him the credit he deserved for such a victory & would instead try say Hopkins is shot! Not everyone, but some people would say that!
Hopkins would weigh in 187. A repeat of the masterclass of kelly pavlik. He is too wiley and too big for williams IMO.
I think the difference in weight will be too much for PW and he'll look slower. If PW had fought at SMW for a couple of fights, i woudl favor him but for him to jump up 10 lbs will be a factor IMO. Hopkins will be noticeably stronger. This is a bad fight for both Hopkins because he'll get no credit even if he wins.
That was a different version of PW. Like Pacman, PW seems to get better and more polished with every fight.
I think Paul Williams lacks the frenetic speed of Calzaghe, which is what REALLY gave Hopkins fits, but his height and arm length advantage might make up for it
You are right about this. Buh I keep bring up that defeat for jokes. williams has improved drastically and you can see that ffrom fight to fight
