This fight was originally scheduled before Williams accident. Which way did you see this going? I gotta go with Williams on this one, I think Canelo was pretty green at that point and Williams high workrate style would have been too much for Alvarez in the latter rounds where he is known to have suspect stamina. Thoughts?
P-Dub was a supernova, his body burned out pretty quick. I think if he didn't have the accident, Canelo might've won. Prior to the Sergio ko, Paul would've sonned him
Never seen a boxer with legs this skinny have a chin as solid as Williams'. 2009 Paul would've beaten Alvarez I think. I hope he gets better eventually.
Dawson always had a Glass Jaw though, people on this forum were saying that in his early career especially after the Eric Harding fight.
Once the downhill slide began for Paul Williams, it was swift and merciless. He's one of my favorite fighters but Paul Williams would have lost to several top contenders at 154 by that point. Alvarez would have landed crazy counters on him and his shell and body movement would have blocked the oncoming shots (of which Williams lacked singular power).
That doesn't mean anything unless you are citing many of those same people saying Wladimir Klitschko always had and still has a glass jaw. Every boxer in the world has had the claim of "they're packing glass" from this forum.
Would have been a great fight damn shame Paul had that accident right before it. Could have been a FOTY type of fight.
PWilly was never the same after the Maravilla landed the left hand from hell. Even a green Canelo at that point beats him. Prime Pwilly tho, iron chinned, nonstop puncher, outworks Canelo bad. Prime Pwilly was good enough to beat Floyd too. He'd do a Castillo on Floyd and Williams would get robbed like Castillo did.
Prime Williams was getting outboxed by Quitanna for FFS:deal No version of Williams beats PBF he's simply too flawed and fought dumb and I was a fan of his BTW.
Yeah he didn't even look the same in the Ishida bounceback fight, in spite of essentially sweeping every round. I thought Alvarez caught a bit too much flack for his opponent choices around the time this one got called off, but that most certainly was not going to be anything resembling a peak Williams in there had that fight occurred.
This version of Canelo beats any version of Paul Williams. William's best win was a razor thin close decision to Antonio Margarito which is a nice win, but he has losses to lesser opponents in Quintana and Martinez. It would be like the Trout fight in the sense that there will be high output by Williams like always, but he would get the shiz countered out of him worse than Trout. Williams lacked defense, and a slick explosive counter puncher like Canelo would exploit that weakness easily.
