Mismatch in favor of Williams. He's too long, too quick, too everything.

Too small, too weak, too inexperienced and a southpaw. Hopkins is the southpaw killer. Hopkins comes in at 190 pounds. Hopkins knocks out Williams, who doesn't deserve to get knocked out by a cruiserweight when he could fight welterweights.

Hopkins was an ATG. He needs to hang it up or risk fighting after his expiration date. After his last fight there's no reason for him to continue on. What more does he need to prove?

Hmmm, we I'm guessing that this would have to be at 168??

With Williams high punch output and workrate I don't think it's a fight that B-Hop would take. That being said Hopkins was able to effectively negate Calzaghes high punch output so it's possible he cold do it again. The question for me is....if Hops doesn't allow Williams to get punches off in the 1st few rounds, and Williams finds himself behind on the cards (a la Calzaghe), would he be able to find a way to squeeze out the rounds the way Joe was able to or would his lack of inexperience at this level tell.

I'd say the later, but the 1st few rounds will be the key.

if hopkins took this fight he would start to get a rep of fighting "smaller men"

This would be an interesting fight:

Factors favoring Hopkins: Naturally bigger, stronger, PhD in boxing.

Factors favoring Williams: Youth, reach, workrate, hand speed.

The thing about PW is that he's become so much better since his loss to Quintana. I think that loss kind of woke him up. He seems to be much more polished now. I think maybe Hopkins might take him to school by never being in one spot and landing that lead right to discourage PW's work rate. He might even make it an in-fight where he would clearly have the advantage. But you also have to consider that guys with fast hands puts Hopkins at a defensive posture. And PW definitely has fast hands. He might also outwork Hopkins over 12 rounds.

But in the end, i think this is a fight Hopkins doesn't need because if he wins, he won't get credit. If he losses, he would really get grilled.

I think the Paul Williams that shut Winky Wright out would win a great decision against B-Hop.

    Hopkins roughs him up.
Williams has the work rate and the length, but he does not really have the boxing IQ. Hopkins does, and B-Hop will neutralize Williams. Hop will make it an ugly fight, and take home the win.
