B-Hop would outclass and out muscle PTP period but that opinion really has no bearing on how I would view a fight against Pav. For similar reasons why people would pick Calzaghe over Pav, I would pick PTP over Pav but with me being slightly less certain in my assertion than they.
I hope every single one of Pavlik's future opponents studies the Hopkins fight. They will learn two things. 1) While still in training camp they will learn they are not good enough to use tri-directional footwork at unexpected angles. 2) Come fight time they will learn that Pavlik at 100% is a completely different fighter than the kid who fought Hopkins. I like Williams, and I have liked him ever since I saw a very early fight on ESPN. I also think Pavlik/Williams should eventually happen. However, if Williams does not grow into the weight properly, and learn to defend himslef a lot better, he's in for a beating. Great fight, possible FOTY candidate if it happens under the right circumstances. Right now, its just a welterweight taking an ass whoopin' from a huge middleweight.
hmm says... I favor PW but give a really good chance to KP basing this on style and technicality. plus the weight is unfamiliar territory to PW.
Those are good points, I'd like to see them meet at 160. It should make for an exciting fight no matter who wins.
Pre-Hopkins, i would've said Pavlik. Now, as PW is more comfortable at MW and has become more polished, i say PW.
Well Pavlik does hit harder but Paul Williams has a high work rate I believe it would go the distance if it were to happen Paul tends to leave himself open for the counter but Pavlik is a strong finisher and is a strong puncher so if he leaves himself open for the counter PW is in some serious trouble I would say Paul Williams would win a decision lets face it hes no Jermain Taylor he wont fade in the later rounds he tends to throw more than 100 punches in every round so if it were to happen I'd go with Paul Williams
Paul would not throw close to 100 punches a round against Pavlik. Pav would shut him right down. PWilly can't survive a fire fight with Pavlik and he has to be smart enough to know that. KP on the other hand has a career average of around 80 punches per round, and many fights with guys who hit a hell of a lot harder than Williams. This ends badly for Williams in about 5-6 rounds. Sooner if he tries to use his normal work rate. And please do not try to say that the guy who walked right the **** over Miranda can't walk Williams down.
you bring up some good valid points there maybe Pavlik can walk Williams down and yes Pavlik has been in the ring with guys who hit harder than PW like Jermain Taylor and Edison Miranda the latter having great one punch knockout power but very limited as witnessed in the Hopkins fight Pavlik has trouble with angles and Paul Williams can fight from different angles no Williams doesnt have the same knockout power as Miranda but hes gonna box from different angles I think Paul is smart enough not to stand and trade shots with Pavlik just throw his punches from crazy angles and use his reach to an advantage possibly dont get me wrong Pavlik will have the pop in his punches to get PW's respect but I just cant see him winning against a fighter who will work and fight from angles and not even fade but we cant tell for sure because PW hasnt really been hit at 160 but I think Williams will provide angles the whole fight to make Pavlik have to work if its over in 5 or 6 rounds PW got caught with something but i think PW is smart enough to stay on the outside rather than try to fight with him on the inside
