Williams is no B-Hop defensively...he can be hit...and when you can be hit by KP at 160 you're going night-night. Pavlik KO 8.
Williams didn't take the fight for a reason. He doesn't even deserve a MW title fight. Like said earlier until he fights a somebody, I won't even waste time thinking about it. Pavlik in 8. Williams needs to wait a few years and let his frame settle into 160. He should stay at 154 and not go down to 147 because he will hurt himself making the WW limit eventually.
It was his camp that proposed it. Reportedly he was jumping up and down after watching Pavlik/Lockett screaming at his brother he KNEW he could take Pavlik.
PW by UD... Has better defense than many believe... And is more fluid then I thought... Just watched a lot of his training and can move and be slick when he needs to be.
I spend more time watching fights (so many new boxers to watch) than discussing them, which is the reason why I can't browse the forum often enough to know that it has come up once a week . Plus, that's hard to keep track of, considering how often forum subjects are added and juggled around in the column ranks. Either way, once a week for that matchup would be a bit slow in my opinion, when I see other matchups come up repetitively on the forums, and frankly, I just hadn't seen it posted, at least not as "Kelly Pavlik vs. Paul Williams: Who wins?," or similar to that. Just didn't see it. Williams is indeed open to right hands, but Pavlik is open to a lot of punches himself, especially considering that Williams definitely has the speed edge. Additionally, I've seen Williams counter surprisingly effectively at times (note the Shamba Mitchell counter combination that finished a much smaller and fast opponent). They both have good jabs, but Williams has better combination punching when he puts it together. Kelly's jab is stronger when it lands. I don't see a reason why this fight would be a stoppage of Williams in less than 6. He has an excellent chin, so a 6 round stoppage of him is unlikely, considering I don't think he's been even knocked down, or even seemed close to being knocked down. Pavlik would be the biggest puncher he's faced though, but that's the whole point of why I posted this because it would be a great fight.
I think it was a 'poll' just last week. And like I said, Arum won't talk to PW about ANY fight since PW actually proposed this fight then backed out when he got what he asked for. Why even bother discussing it. NOT GONNA HAPPEN. For all of those PW supporters here, you have more faith in him taking KP than he did himself. :deal
Is that so? Seems like folks were sayin' it was Pav who didn't want the fight. Not enough money or somethin'? Anyhow, I'll take KP by UD in this one.
Because Paul usually keeps his right hand down low, Quintanta nailed him with one left hand after another. Williams would be eating Pavlik's jack hammer jab all night long. William's is susceptible to right hands even when faced with a normal jab. Against Pavlik he would be facing a man with a jack hammer for a jab, and one of the best right hands in the business. We all know the double-jab-right hand is Pav's bread and butter. It would be harder for Kelly to miss Paul than to hit him! Pavlik takes this in brutal fashion after 5-6 rounds, and Williams is never the same fighter again.
Pav did not want to fight a welterweight, but he said he would do it. Turned out to be a non starter because Goosen ****ed Arum around, and eventually turned the fight down.
Sorry, but I put little faith in the boxing world rumors that abound online. Too much he said/he said, he offered this/he turned down that. I ignore that gossip and rumor stuff because I don't exactly live in Vegas or an active boxing community, so there's no certainty only rumors. I wasn't asking if I thought the fight would happen, I was asking who'd win. I missed the poll, if I had seen it I wouldn't have even posted this thread, but honestly it's just another thread that gets people's opinions that haven't voiced them. I'm sure most people that voiced their thoughts before ignored this one.
Not to say that it cant happen but we all know that Pavlik will be a little gun shy after seeing what B-Hop did to him, and seeing that Pavlik was not able to throw a double jab that whole fight I cant see him doing it to Williams who will not give a second for Kelly setup. I noticed in Pavliks second fight with Jermain and with B-Hop, Kelly is a setup fighter against boxer punchers and he does not do well when being stalked... He needs his feet planted, and not as quick as many think he is.
