Cotto fought 14 champions? LOL he only fought one champion : the unproven Foreman. All the other titles that he won were vacant.
Cotto brutally KOs him. Williams' Chin is Pure Glass now and he's a sucker for the left, which just happens to be Cotto's bread and butter. When Williams could take a decent shot he would have had a great chance against Cotto who can fold under pressure, but he can't stand up to the punishment now.
Paul has no punching power and as a few others mentioned he doesnt use his height or his reach to his advantage. Cotto is a better fighter and would work him on the inside.
How do I see this fight today?? Just as I saw this all these years. Cotto by brutal, I mean, exorcising kO!! PWilliams will want to work on Cotto's corner for the rest of his working days after the beating, that is, if the KFC's manager will work out a schedule with Willies full time job! Cotto would outbox that ass easier than Quintana did and tee off on that soft chin at will until it melts (again) b4 the 10th... and that's been generous to PWill..
Stopped reading @ PW beat Martinez, aka didn't read... You mean he beat Martinez as he beat Lara and as he was beating Cintron?!?! Good one, now try a cowboy tale, or, maybe a clown one.. :yep
and I think you and IB have been exaggerating a little, but I don't mind it even though I'm on the other side. Bald_Toad is an idiot :yep Williams deserved the first Martinez fight
Cotto wins by decision now. When they were both at welter though I think Williams would have overwhelmed him.
I agree it was a fluke, but not due to his lack of preparation. Find an article post prison, pre-Ishiida, and then see how many hours he spent outside the ring. The man was out of the gym for 7 hours a day for nearly 3 months. And we've all seen how he spars. He lost that fight because he was overtrained, not undertrained. A fighters body needs time to udjust soas it can create muscle memory, reflex memory, etc etc etc. He was bone dry coming into that ring, and Ishiida could have likely KDd him 12 times before the end of the 3rd before he finally got warmed up and KHTFO!:deal
My only concern with Williams is his ability to take a punch now. He looked like he got rocked a couple times on Saturday. I don't think his other skills have declined too badly, he just has problems with southpaws. Oh, btw I think he won the first Martinez fight 7-5. But it was close and could see people giving it to Martinez. I think he could beat Canelo.
Nah, it wouldn't be that serious. Beating this version of Williams (who looked merely okay in a flattering match-up with Ishida) at 154 in 2012 wouldn't really be a bigger win than beating Mosley @ 147 in 2007...or Judah at the same weight in the same year, for that matter. Nor would it be bigger than beating unbeaten Quintana the year before, or coming off the canvas to conquer unbeaten Torres at 140 in 2005.
Actually Ishida was punching. If you look at his earlier fights he just throws his arms out there. Now days he is actually putting some steam behind those pillows. But still, Williams has a dent in his chin and Cotto might crack it.
