Williams wasn't a Hearns....he wasn't as tough or as clever as a Randy Shields either...
Cuevas finds him and crushes him.

This is, in all honesty, a waste of a vs thread.

One of the most hittable welterweights of his generation against one of the hardest hitting welterweights of all time. Hmm....! :hang:rolleyes:

Williams would have been Pipino's own, special pinata.

Once again, you wonder why Cuevas' Mgt was dumb enough to take the Hearns fight
up in Detroit, when it should have been in Mexico City with Hearns in his first big fight
    before the Champion's home crowd.

Williams’s defense was too shitty to beat Cuevas.

It would be about as one sided as a seal clubbing I'm afraid. Considering moderate hitter Sergio Martinez had Williams face flat on the canvas unconscious I'm not quite sure what Cuevas would do...

I wonder if he was simply made a damn good offer, one that he couldn't realistically turn down, to take the fight there...

What elite/great/notable of their era punchers did William's face...?

The reason it was fought in Detroit was money. This fight was fought less than 2 months after the Duran vs Leonard fight in Montreal. The promoter of this fight was hoping for a similar box office bonanza. This fight was shown on close circuit telecast through America.

He smashed tons of especially durable chins time in and time out, and I have no doubt he could turn the same trick against a larger target with a lesser chin than one's he's already busted.

Williams would've had a chance against Cuevas if he'd learned to use his height and length. But he didn't.

It would be a total disaster for William's. He may win a rd or two with his activity. But he doesn't have close to the power Hearns carried. Or the speed, or the boxing ability. A poster asked the question who did Hearns fight prior to Cuevas. I'd take H.Weston,B.Curry, A.Espada, and esp C.Gray over anyone William's fought. Including Martinez. The Jr Welter/ Welter limit had some of the best fighters in history from 75/76 to 85/86 the fighters I named had the misfortune of coming along during that time frame. If they were fighting the last 20yrs, with their abilities from that era. We'd be talking about how they would've done against a Hearns or Leonard. Cuevas would've decimated Williams. Williams was too easy to hit, and not enough fire power to keep Cuevas honest. If it went 5rds I'd be surprised.

I attended the Williams-Margarito fight. Williams ate plenty of bombs from Margarito down the stretch to take the win. They were both two sizes bigger than Cuevas too with day before-weigh ins. I think Cuevas might take a mid-late round tko but it would be difficult and he might lose. Williams was capable of eating shots at 147 and still throwing 100 punchers per round to get the victory.
