Williams, who holds an interim junior middleweight belt and used to be a welterweight titleholder before giving it up because he couldn't get anyone to fight him, will move up to middleweight again to face Wright in a scheduled 12-round fight April 11 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. The fight, which has been in the works for weeks, was officially announced Thursday. "It's been a long time since I've been this motivated and I can't wait until the bell rings," Wright said. "Paul is one of the top young fighters in the game, but he hasn't seen what I've seen or done what I've done. This is my time to shine and I won't let this young fighter steal my spotlight." "I am glad that the fight is on," Williams, 27, said. "This fight has got a big name. Wright has taken the titles from champions and I'd love to take his reputation. That would add to my legacy. All I know is that everyone says he has got a good defense and nice jab but that doesn't matter to me -- I'm going to get mine in. I'm gonna whoop him and get in there." Is Winky the best fighter Williams will have faced? He has the experience and some big wins but The Punisher is a force to be reckoned with...
Im going with Williams, Winky hasnt fought in so long. Unless he shows up and gives an absolutely sterling performance, Williams can outwork him over the distance on activity and volume. Wright gets hit more than he used to. And I know he doesnt have the kind of power that can hurt Williams or slow him down.
the fight would be at 160.. Goosen said the fight is a match up between the most feared vs most avoided... im almost sure that PW would be the favored fighter here
I'd normally back Wright to the hilt against almost anybody, but I feel Williams will outwork him in this one for the decision.
don't really care honestly, as long as the winner fights Dzinziruk, or the winner of Martinez-Cintron...but then again Winky probably can't make 154, so nevermind...if he wins i wanna see him in with Pavlik or Abraham
A case of making a wild guess. Remember . . . Winky is coming in from more than 1 1/2 year layoff. If Winky comes in his old ussual form . . . I'm picking Winky.
I'm hoping Winky but it depends whats left in the tank. A prime, in-form Wright would have toyed with Williams.
No way. Have you followed Wrights career at all ? ****ing master .He would have had Williams chasing shadows, and still might.
If it comes out like it is expected to go and that is nobody on his way outa the game and just in there to make some doe and looking 4 the exit door, the it gat 2 be Wink. Paul doesn't have the necessary strategical wisdom and he has no advantages whatsoever at this weight class. It will turn into a jabbing contest with someone looking 2nd rate.
